I have a question about the sample menu. For example, I have a 'SOLO FLUTE LOOPED' folder which holds an item with a black menu arrow - 'FLUTE 1 LP'. There are further items lower in the hierarchy, like 'FLUTE 1 LP BC1', and these have no arrows. I can click both the black arrow items and the children and get the sample in the mix window. The items at the lowest level are clearly different articulations. But what am I getting when I double click a black arrow entry and it appears in the mix window?

Also, is there a list of what all the sample abbreviations are?

edit: Ok, the samples are mapped and the black arrow items give you all the child samples mapped appropriately? Bear with me please, I'm new to all this.

thanks

I cannot find any info concerning this function on the website :?
Not currently but may be possible in the future. Well, actually, you can always go to www.xlutop.com and download Chainer (for PC) for standalone use. I use that and I love that thing! Even the demo version works fine (although it isn't much for the version which allows you to save chains of VSTs).

No problem Mark. Check out the sound manual PDF that comes with it. There is an explanation of the abbreviations there. But, I can tell you guys a bit more about them.

AMV stands for Aftertouch/Modulation/Velocity and is another way of saying IT'S DELUXE AND EXPRESSIVE programming! Sometimes that's too responsive for some people so you can always just load the "parent" sound (which is the main sound that has the arrow) for less going on with modulation routings.

BC stands for Breath Control and is only useful if you have a breath controller, otherwise skip them (even delete them if you want by doing a search for "BC".)

EXPD is expression pedal I believe where it assigns CC11 to volume.

There are a bunch and I don't have it in front of me, plus there is this hurricane going on outside and I can lose internet and power at any moment. (what other company answers your questions during a hurricane hmm? ;) ). Woops. Sounds nasty outside. Two people already died from flying objects in the area.

By the way, I am looking at a banner ad for "Soundoo.com". Wow. Sound "doo" ????? "DOO?????" "Doodoo????" Hmmmmmm. Sounds like doo. It might be a good site but I don't like the sound of "doo". Do you?

Apologies, I missed the pdf there. I expect I'll be back again tomorrow with more questions.

It's no big deal for me but I do like having a standalone version. I recall the original ad for Philharmonik in Keyboard mentions stand alone at the bottom of the ad but later in the next issue it didn't, so I was thinking it must have been a mistake like IK did with ST2 in the ads, mentioning compatibility with Win98&ME. This is certainly not THAT big a goof but I would like to see a SA version in the future. No SA version would not have been a deal-breaker for me or most others anyway, I'm sure :)

I just wrap the thing in EnergyXT myself.

Squids - I seem to be getting sensational performance with latency etc.. when I just dump Miro into EnergyXT's modular environment.

It actually occurs to me that as soon as you use the EnergyXT Sequencer to host VSTis you get quite a bit of additional latency, but just sit the thing in the modular environment and your playability sky-rockets.

Or it seemed like that for me anyway....

Still loving that Steinway.

I knew it. Sample CDs are dangerous :)

Good advice Squids, thanx!!! :D

We might release a stand alone version at some point too. It makes sense especially for the combis. I have to admit I love just sitting there playing the combis and using them to write with.

I'm just trying to get the AMV patches to work with a Korg Trinity. I can see the midi is getting through to FLS as the midi light flashes on aftertouch and modulation (joystick +/-Y), but I can't hear any changes in the tone and no swelling. Velocity is working fine. Is there anything dead obvious I'm staring at? I've tried several of the AMV patches but no luck on any of them.

I've been playing around with the AMV patches (strings) in Sonar 4PE and the thing I've noticed is that first of all, the volume changes from the mod wheel don't seem to be audible unless I have the MP window open in Sonar - that is, the GUI needs to be visible for me to actually hear the modwheel affecting the sound. Also, I tried the Exp patches and noticed the the range from silent to loudest seems to be 64-127. Anything below 64 is inaudible. I don't know what application you're using MP with, but these are my observations with Sonar. Can anyone else confirm this? I've managed to make a really nice sounding string arrangement but it's taking a bit of trial and error to figure out the Exp and AMV parameters.

I just quickly checked this out in Sonar 4.03PE. I can confirm that the behavior you report with the AMV patches occurs on my system as well in the VST version, but the DX version works fine.

I think some other problems I was having with the GUI freezing up and getting an error message was occurring only in the VST version as well, but I haven't really confirmed this yet. But I worked for some time yesterday with the DX version loaded up and this problem did not occur, so it may very well be that the DX version is a lot more stable in Sonar than the VST version.

I've been having problems with a few other VST's in Sonar and Project 5, so it may be the Cakewalk Adaptor that is involved in all of this.

As for the Expr patches, I can hear the sound when the volume is below 64, but it does seem that a much larger change in volume occurs between 64-127 than from 1-64. The volume is rather faint below 64.

Hmm, that's interesting. My only problem though working with the DX version is the held notes/tempo change bug (a Sonar thing). I had switched MP to the DX version because I found it didn't freeze up on me - but then had to switch back to VST because I was getting hanging notes when I had tempo changes. So, I guess for now it's a trade-off

I'm using FruityLoopsStudio. I thought it might be the Trinity control data not matching up, but it looks like the Miroslav interface modulation wheel isn't doing anything with the AMV samples either. Still the only thing that works is velocity.

I'd appreciate a bit more information on the AMV patches. I'm a bit unclear on what is meant to be modulating. Is it the Macro parameters, and the Macro parameters only? In that case, could I check out what kind of effect I should be getting by playing with the Macro knobs for AMV sounds? And should I see the Macro parameters change when I'm successfully controlling them with the Trinity modulation wheel/aftertouch? Or are there other parameters held within the sample?

Can anybody walk me through the process of setting AMV/EXP up?

thanks
