Hello all,
Forgive me if this is a common topic. I did a search on this forum and didn't find any similar discussions.
I was a participant in the Great Sonic Synth 1 Group Buy about a year ago. Since then, I've used the Sonic Synth 1 sounds on and off, but I've put off any additional upgrades (save the purchase of the Studio Drums capsule) until recently.
Now I want to enhance my sound library and I see upgrading from Sonic Synth 1 as a good way to do it. My dilemma is choosing which upgrade path to take.
It looks like Sonic Synth 2 sounds have been greatly enhanced. I listened to the some of the SS2 demo MP3's and I like what I heard.
On the other hand, I found the ST2LE engine to be rather stiffling and would finally like to upgrade that to the full engine. I'm figuring ST2L would be the most economical way to obtain it. I haven't listened to the ST2 demos, figuring that the ST2 sounds would sound a lot like what I already have.
I only have room in my budget to get one of them at present (unless there is some combo bundle that I am unaware of). I would need to delay getting the other for a few months. (I am assuming that I can take advantage of either the SS1 to upgrade SS2 pricing or the ST2LE to ST2L upgrade pricing as indicated on the eSoundz site. )
In case it matters, the kind(s) of music I like to make are R&B/Jazz/Fusion. I occaisionally dabble in some electronica styles also.
So, which upgrade path makes the most sense? Are there any specials that I may be missing if I choose one over the other?

I know their us a crossgrade discount to get you both cheaper. I am sure Squids (or someone) will pipe up with the specifics soon.

You probably want to get the Sonik Synth 2 upgrade but if you talk to sales@esoundz.com and mention your dilemma perhaps they can put together a package deal to get both upgrades for a great price.

You might also be interested to know that the playback engine for Sonik Synth 2 is essentially the full ST2 engine, minus the capability to import sounds of your own.
This gives you access to all three synthesis engines (playing with STRETCH can be lots of fun on sounds that you might not necessarily think to use it), can use all 5 FX slots etc
If you want access to a huge range of synth sounds, with some other sounds thrown into the bargain, go with SS2.
If you're looking for a "bread and butter" workhose with synth and acoustic sounds, ST2 might be more your go.
If you're a real tweaker/sound designer (or like me, like to have the option should you ever find the time
), SS2 also comes with a huge range of sound "elements". For example, you could combine the "chiff" attack of a pan pipe with a female "ooh" sound with a raw unprocessed saw tooth of a Mini Moog to create your very own sound (and then process the hell out of it with the onboard fx 
).
But hey, in the end it's all up to what you think you want/need.

It does seem that SS2 makes the most sense for what I am interested in, but I will contact esoundz as suggested to see what bundle options possibilites there are.

If I remember right, if there are SS1 sounds you use that aren't in SS2, then SS2 can't play them, where ST2L or ST2XL can.
However, those sounds can still be played in the ST2LE alongside SS2 so they're not "lost" if you get SS2 instead of ST2L
I'm leaning towards ST2XL when the budget allows (the $ difference in the upgrades isn't much, but you get over 2x as much content with XL). This will go with SS1 and an as-yet-unreleased library of arcane electronic instruments (novachord, clavioline, etc) *hint hint* but SS2 is within possibility further down the road.

My .02... You can play any sounds in ST2, (including SS2) but not the other way around... I've taken all my SS2 sounds (and SS1) and just placed them in the ST2 folder, so I can use the keywords search to find sounds... Which you can't do in SS2! I bought the SS1 group buy, which plays in ST2, I use the SS2 sounds in ST2, and I have the sounds that came in ST2L... I prefer 1 Sampletank interface myself, so as to avoid mouse/triangle, overload

Just to note if you choose ST, ST2.1 XL will have the sounds reissued with new content and stuff soon, and it's free if you buy XL now, so it might be worth getting instead of L.
