Yep, in another year, they'll have to make it available on the PC, since it'll be rewritten for that hardware anyway. Maybe they'll release it in time for your next flip-flop!ttoz wrote:ALTIVERB!

meh.

where is the music you make,tt? you've never submitted any. you've spent the equivalent of the year gross capital of Argentinia on gear, let's hear some music. so you can put 13 instances of AMBIENT in your host. big deal. I want to hear your music. Where can I find it?
I'll even host it if you can't afford server space. heh.

Errr, it's a convolution reverb isn't it? It seems me that there are plenty of them available on the PC. I personally think convolution reverbs are overrated anyway.

Oh, I guess being Mac only I haven't really bothered checked it out. Like I said, convolution reverbs don't really do that much for me anyway, though I do make a lot of use of convolution with non-reverb impulses.ttoz wrote:Yes, but it's all about the library. it seems in every review, every time, the Altiverb library is considered the very very best. i'm really looking forward to it.
I'm very much in agreement with the opinions expressed by Jezar in an his essay "Thoughts on reverb". He believes that artificial sounding reverbs, like those built by Quantec and Lexicon, have a superior sound to the ones that attempt to more accurately model real environments. I wholeheartedly agree. Oddly enough I find his Freeverb to be one of the best sounding reverbs out there. Very comparable to the the Lexi "Wood Room" sound which I quite like. I only wish it had a greater variety of features and tweakabilty.
I tend to work in the ambient genre and I find these artificial reverbs to have a far more interesting sound for that style of music. The impulses I've heard, bundled with convoverbs, seem to (for obvious reasons) lean heavily in the natural environment direction. I've tried hard to find reverb impulses that inspire me but I have yet to really succeed at it. Even the ones based on impulses of Lexicons seem a bit grainy to me and and lack smoothness of the real hardware.
I really wish someone would expand the features of the Schroeder/Moorer model that Jezar has implemented in Freeverb. I know that "Reverb Assistant" seemed to attempt this but I didn't really find it to contribute that much more flexibilty to the overall Freeverb sound.
It's funny, I think people really discount Freeverb and it's variations because it's... well, free. There is this silly bias that something has to be expensive to be considered professional. It also absolves people of having to use critical judgment to make distinctions between what is good and what is bad. If it's expensive... it must be good.

no, ttoz, you've really peaked my interest. I'd like to hear the kind of music a $10,000+ per year spending habit can produce. I wanna hear the perfect synth and the perfect reverb sequenced with the perfect host on the perfect computer. It must sound like ElvisfreakingPresley, crapping heavenly manna on the Boston Philharmonic. I'm a proud man, ttoz, but I won't hesitate to beg for a piece of that sweet, sweet music. Post anything you've made- from any year. Such expensive things are timeless; like Bentleys and Rolls-Royce, or bottles of Rothchild and Latour. I've heard enough of you lording your wealth of gear over us, I must hear the sounds I will never be rich enough to make. Let me hear the sound of burning money, of orgiastic impulse expeditures. Gimme now.
