VST for URL streaming?

Is it even possible?
Sometimes while listening to a stream I like to noodle around on the keyboard and play along. As it is now, I have to assign the VSTi to my ASIO card (RME) and the stream to the onboard sound chip (VIA AC'97), then into a mixer in order to hear both stream and VSTi at once.
It would be nice to use a host and accomplish this using only one sound card.
Any thoughts?

Don't use ASIO then.

I don't get it... Why don't you assign your streaming app to the RME WDM driver and use the usual ASIO RME driver in your host? You just need 4 channels.
Ndct.

I usually use MME or DX drivers which, unlike ASIO, allow multiple apps to access the driver at one time. I don't play any VSTis live so I'm not in need of the lower latencies that ASIO offers. YMMV.
