Is there a fuzz box? If I'm not mistaken the Electro Harmonix Big Muff was all over that album. At least for the really distorted tones. I know I can get that sound with my Guitarport fairly quickly but I don't own Trash.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

Apparently they used the Electro Harmonix Small Stone phaser so much that they gaffer taped it to the guitar... not sure if that's what you're after though.

It's Big Muff out the yin yang. I'd go to your beloved (and deservedly so, not being sarcastic!) Buzz Room site and download Buz and OctaBuz to chain up in front of Trash. I know that Trash is capable of doing it on its own, but if you already have a relatively good preset in Trash that you want to use, throw the fuzz in front of it and give'er.
Computer Music 90 is going to have a fuzz plug-in, too, according to the back of the magazine.

Just get one of these:

Try recording with just the Big Muff panned hard left and then the Big Muff running through Trash hard right.
(or vise versa)
Just an idea . . .

What kind of amp does Corgan use? Try to get something close to his amp in the second "trash model" (since you can have two in series), then throw the Big Muff model in front and experiment with box models until you get it.rpc9943 wrote:already have thosehmmm...

Someone also makes a good Small Stone VSTi, but I can't remember who. It's in the database.
Here is my small version:

To get that tone you need to run a Big Muff into a pushed Marshall stack. I forgot exactly which model but try out that free JCM900(?) vst. I got passable results in the real world with a big muff into a tech21 sansamp on the British setting

okay some more info:
"In the studio Billy uses a Marshall MK II 100-watt head and live he uses two Mesa Strategy 500 power amps including the two Marshall 4 X 12 cabinates. Corgans sound originates from a 1984 JCM Marshall head with KT-88 tubes. Corgans trick is to plug into the low input of the head and turn the post gain all the way up, using the pre-amp gain as the master volume. All other settings are pretty much up."
"Billy is a huge fan of KT-88's which he uses in his Marshall. The Gish/Siamese Dream guitar sound has a lot to do with KT-88's which add a round, fat bottom to his sound."
I would also point out that Kt-88's have more headroom than EL34's which would result in less power amp distortion - a more defined sound. I think Zak Wylde does a similar thing. But keep in mind he had the power section open wide and was controlling volume from the preamp section so I would say the amp wouldn't be distorting the signal as much as you would think. Maybe a big muff into a JC-120 would do the trick?
