i think maybe a bit of gentle bantering between friends got read wrong by some newbies and turned into a bit of an onslaught against you..

come on guys ttoz is one of us .. quit the bashing

who cares about whether a person posts tunes either .. i certainly don't .. it's the people i come here for :D

Perhaps you have not really seen thinhs from my type of perspective. The statement "not very good at any one thing" suggests it.

First (from how I feel about music, not for anyone to say I am saying it should be for you) describe good, good at the instrument?...what' defines that good? How many people that tell you you are? How much money it makes you?

How about we go back to it's conception. If while I'm creating it do I care about either of the above? For me the answer is no, as I say expression. Too me writing a song is about preserving my emotions for me to remember in a manner that maybe unique to me. Sharing it is a bonus, and some reward from that can be taken when the song reaches the listener, however that in itself can have no effect on what that song did for me while writing it, or listening to it.

It seems if you're having fun, you are good at one major thing, finding a way to have fun and express yourself...imo after that it's primary function has been a success...thus it was good for you...

I have no idea what you mean by that, perhaps it's better that way...;)

btw the last two posts of mine were written while basking in the after glow of having just played for a while...and nothing was recorded, nothing was "serious"...just havin fun...a feeling I have enjoyed thousands of times and yet it never whithers, and never ceases to amaze me that it doesn't, for which I am quite thankful...;)

bobbyblank-- I didn't call you a turd. ;) I said that people who judged based on unfair or personalized criteria are turds. You said that you don't do that; hence, you're not a turd. :D

Hink-- honestly, 3/4 of it is the drum thing, and 1/4 is unhappiness with what I hear. Sometimes I keep working on a project thinking, "I'll get to the drums later," but by the time a month rolls by with no drums, I get sick of the project. I'd rather start off with a riff or chord progression from jamming and having fun with no computer present. :D By then, I can imagine what sort of drums I want to have with the song. So when I sit down at my DAW, I want the rhythm section first. I can play bass, USUALLY well enough to get what I want/need from it (when I imagine tunes in my head, I guess I always account for my own limitations when it comes to bass parts!), so that's not worry, which leaves drums.

It's aggravating. :(

If I had a huge library of appropriate MIDI drums, I'd be halfway there. I'm savvy enough to modify something that sounds 'similar' already, but just not savvy enough to program it from scratch, especially ghost/grace notes and those subtle tricks that make a part sound real.

Of all the artists Ive known to break into the music bus what gets them in is raw talent and skillz with a pinch of luck thrown in for good measure.

Ive never heard any of the majors artists endorse or say how good there equiptment is that there using. That because its not the equipment that gets you noticed in the first place its your talent.

The only ppl I know of that get a hard on over equipment are engineers and producers not the actual act it self, Ive been in this bus for awhile and I just wanted to say this cause most ppl here seem to explode over how good this is or how good that is when what really matters is how good you are.

All you need are chops and a good ole beat up DX7 or a funky ole boss drum machine or alessis and be able to at least play the damn thing decent then get a good singer or two and throw in a good string section and viola cross your fingers and hope you get picked outta the million of CDs that are being submitted every day to most of the record companys out here.

So to come on here bragging about your equipment is what this forum is for, its not a web site where ppl have to submit there material for us to judge them by, its just a place to chat about the latest and greatest software or hardware.

My opinion of tozz is a good one, hes not saying hes the best in the world cause he has all this great equipment, but he or she shares the same love for equipment that we all do and seems to be very excited over the purchases he makes and shares that with us.

Envy am I ? well kinda of , who wouldnt be but to get so envious as to alienate him from shareing all the good news would be bad for us all, we need ppl with a spirit like that, he or she has always been very cheerful about what ever its selling or buying so I say let it be and more power to him/her.

And to call him/her out to show something for all his purchases could be a mistake on his part and yours for asking for it, If tozz is a gear whore so fking what, if tozz can play good music then more power to him, but remember what I said in the begining of this post you dont really need great gear to be able to play great music. I mean back in the 8 bit days of the 50s and 60s era of music they wernt concerned about 16 bit 44.1 perfect recording they knew back then that its all on how good you are with the crappiest equipment that matters, not everyone who had a steinway of strat back then went on to greatness but a slew of the ppl who played on the crappiest equipment went on to become the greatest muscians of all time.

sorry for the rant :) and sorry for alot of my mis spellings :o
