Haven't had a decent night's sleep for ages. Of course the Ashes are on, starting 9pm over here, and run through to 5am-ish. I work nights, and fortunately have been days off on most of the tests, but it means I'm on permanent nights

Now I'm sat at work - 04:16am watching the Aussies' wicket count remain way too low, but the run rate steadily increase. All on a silly little internet scorecard. Why can't they just roll over and admit they're beaten? Sheer bloody mindedness that they now start to produce the goods when it's all too late, and the only graceful thing would be to collapse and be done with it - they're getting to be almost as good as England were at collapsing. Taught by the masters...

Fookin' good series though, eh?

Yea, even I have my little 4" TV on watching it whilst I make music - it's funny how there seems to be so much interest with Cricket at the moment - saying that: it would soon 'Wither n Die' if Mr Warne was bowling us out.

True. It is good to see the interest in Krikkit waxing again - TBH it'd be very watchable even if England manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory - it's good to have the boys competing again - that's what makes a good competition.

It wasn't just that it was tedious to watch England getting beaten every Ashes series - it used to be so one-sided it wasn't even a contest. They've already restored a bit of credibility to it even if it's drawn.

Who's competing? Our team are pathetic. That England aren't 3-0 up shows that even when the're good, and right now they are playing really well, the're still bloddy hopeless. The way Australia are playing at the moment they deserve to lose, and lose badly. There is not one batsman in anything approaching decent form and the fielding is the worst I can remember. If it wasn't for the tail-enders we would be finished.

Makes you wonder what role the 2 month break taken by most of the Oz players before this tour has had in their decline in form. The players who went to Blighty and played county cricket (eg Warne) have been in good form but Gillespie and a few of the others have lost the plot entirely. Watching all the catches go down has been pretty strange - whether this is to do with a decline in agility with an aging team or a simple lack of practice of the basic skills under Buchanan - either way action needs to be taken.

P.S. But yes, it is a major concern as to what will happen in the next couple of years, when we start losing McGrath, Gillespie (gone already), Warne, Hayden (just about gone already), and all the other 30 year olds...

Great competition. Finally the Aussies are being beaten. Although I am fearful that Vaughan made an error in enforcing the follow on. I think it may have been better to take a mental break and send his guys in to suck up some time and pile on the runs rather than chase in the last innings. Australia were always going to be tougher to get out second time around.

Yep, the follow on being enforced is the only reason I'm still hoping, although it was going to be a tough choice either way for the Poms.

The pommy bowlers were hardly going to be tired after the first innings - unless it was from chasing Lee's hits out of the ground.

I can understand why he enforced it. It takes away the prospect of a draw almost entirely, but it does mean they will be chasing in the fourth innings at the crease, which is not always easy.

It removes not only the draw but the chance of the Ozzies jumping all over a generous declaration. Butcher did this in the last Ashes series in England: Gilchrist, deputising as captain, set a sub-400 total and Butcher got 170 odd and the poms successfully chased down the total to take their only win of the series.

Don't think that was their main motivation, really - both the weather and the fact that the coach felt they have us on the ropes are larger condsiderations. There's plenty of time to put the game out of our grasp, especially with bloody Flintoff!
