Has anyone else ever noticed this thing Brett Lee does occasionally, where he scores a quickfire, fantastic innings, and then seems to come out for his next bat wanting to be taken seriously as a batsman? I wanted him to start flogging a bit earlier, but he was prodding about like the Poms used to... ;-)

Ah yes by gum - occupying the crease, Geoff Boycott style ;-)

I think the bowlers -- Lee and Warne particularly -- are less inclined to rolling over. They really hate losing and are prepared to do what it takes to stick around. Perhaps they should hold a clinic for the "batsmen" on selling your wicket dearly.

Yes, completely agree. There's a perverse part of me which enjoys these "what if" games, actually - that rapid innings from Trescothick is looking quite vital. If only we had another 50 runs for Warnie to play with... :hihi:

Apart from Warne, which Aussie players would make the current England side?

McGrath ;-)

Probably. And probably Gilchrist, but only on past glories and Geraint Jones' form.

Actually, if you were asking that question seriously, and not basing it purely on this match/series, I'd say the Poms would be very happy to have Gilchrist defect - the best wicketkeeper/batsman the game has ever seen. Mind you, even Gilly is getting a tad long in the tooth...

You wish. I don't think we are quite at that point.

Freddie is playing brilliantly and Jones is doing the business too. Take those two out and England would be crushed like bugs.

Strauss hasn't done enough to justify his position and G. Jones likewise. Pietersen - six dropped catches out of six and not many runs. Ponting, Langer and Martyn would all be picked ahead of those three and don't kid yourself otherwise. Imagine if England's batsmen were facing England's bowlers - how do you think they would go?

And then there's the spate of LBW decisions being awarded against Oz - three in this match were not out - conclusively demonstrated by super slo-mo cameras and the snickometer. One was Ponting on 1 run.

Martyn has been given out LB after hitting the ball with his bat in two successive test matches. Are the umps bent or what?

The umpiring has been ATROCIOUS... but what's new? I've given up on getting pissed off about it, in any sport... unless you're hinting at a conspiracy? If so, there's a thread somewhere around here for that...

Oh, and wouldn't it be great if we had 2 Warnes out there right now... oh, hang on - we have another world class leg spinner in Australia - what's his name again..?
