c) Can we assume that it's a full Dxi2 implementation rather than just a propriatory wrapper?

OK, apologies if this is old news, but i've just been over at Cakewalk.com, and noticed the Tau Pro and Electron are being offered in Dxi flavour...

Quite right, these are brand-spanking new. We're a little behind in updating our website thanks to events over Christmas so the boys at Cakewalk have got a head-start and that's the only place you can currently buy them right at this minute.
To answer your last question, in order to keep step with the VST version there's some proprietory "wrapping" going on in the DXi versions but it is totally transparent. The installer also gives you the option of installing a native VSTi version too just in case.
This arrangement means we can release one update patch in the future and update both groups of customers, and nobody misses out on any features. Stability-wise we reckon they're rock-solid in Sonar.
A full set of VSTi/DXi demos, the Muon Collection will also be made available shortly for those who like to try before they buy.

Excellent!! I've been hoping Muon would come out with DXi's for us Sonar people. A question: I'm a longtime owner of both Tau Pro and Electron - is there an upgrade path for existing owners to the DXi versions? An crossgrade from the VSTi version to the DXi version could almost certainly be organised. Not sure on pricing just yet but I would expect it to be an absolutely nominal sum (like 10$) just to cover our costs.
