I'm using a BCR in cubase and it annoys me that I have to be "selected" on the track (connected to vst) that I wish to control.
Is there a way to do this? That was one of the things that really made me quite like live, the ability to set a control for a certain parameter and then it was always there.
My BCR is gathering dust on one end due to this because I can only control a few params that I can be bothered to set.

You need to look into the "generic remote" thing. But you won't have much fun with it, believe me...
It's no songbased setting either, but a global one, so whenever you assign something to, say, cutoff of Synth1 in one song, it just won't be valid anymore in songs without Synth1 being present on the very same plugin slot.
Steinberg missed out on the opportunity of a songbased, complete MIDI learn functionality. Even more amazing as the technical things required are all there allready.
But then, most host makers miss out on that.

There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Thanks for the info, I use my BCF as a generic remote so I'll look into doing the same thing.
I don't know that many people are doing midi right really, I find problems with many synths. I think that ableton are doing it right with their setup. Sure, I can't assign 32 knobs to one synth because its a global setting but its just far more "musical" to be able to adjust the key synth controls that really make the noise dramatically change.
