Looking for a MIDI plugin

I am looking for a MIDI filter / switch that can split up the key range and send different key ranges to different MIDI channels. Does this exist?

Maybe Midiox would be something for you?
From what I know, it also works in realtime, but you'll probably have to install a virtual MIDI driver, such as MIDI Yoke or Hubis Loopback.
Of course all those settings won't be recalled along with your host.
Talking about hosts, It'd be just easy to build yourself such a thing in both Cubase and Logic. No idea about others.
Oh, here's the Midiox link:

Yes, such plugins exist:Torben wrote:I am looking for a MIDI filter / switch that can split up the key range and send different key ranges to different MIDI channels. Does this exist?
- EnergyXT can act as a VST MIDI plugin within other hosts and can also split the key range using the MIDI patcher and MIDI chs components.
- Asseca has a VST MIDI plugin called MIDIsplit that can do this.
- Tencrazy.com (markleford) has an MFX format plugin that can do this called Jambuddy.
Many and various other plugins and combinations of plugins can be used to do the same thing, but it may be easier to use the all-in-one plugins depending on your host.

Yeah, eXT might be great for such things as well. But, depending on your host, you might still have to install a virtual MIDI driver/port.

If the host loads either VST effects or VSTi plugins then there is also the option to load eXT inside that and have the target instruments and routings inside eXT (there is even a 'MIDI in from O/S' plugin for using eXT in hosts that don't route MIDI to plugins), so there are ways to maintain settings inhost (not using external apps).Sascha Franck wrote:Yeah, eXT might be great for such things as well. I am using Cubase SX3 and I would prefer a Midi effect plugin to load in the Midi channel (preferable in a single dll). Cubase has some build in but none of them seems to do this. I can put a filter before each synth though.
Thanks

Did you try the transformer set to "global"? Wouldn't that just do the job?Torben wrote:I am using Cubase SX3 and I would prefer a Midi effect plugin to load in the Midi channel (preferable in a single dll). I cannot see how transformer should be able to do this but then again it's not the most intuitive plugin so maybe I just don't understand it.Sascha Franck wrote: Did you try the transformer set to "global"? Wouldn't that just do the job?

As Sascha says, you can use the input transformer for this. You just use it on each MIDI track in local mode and set the note range and output channel differently on each track (use a different input transformer for each MIDI track, use as many MIDI tracks as you require splits, you can route each MIDI track to a different VSTi).

BTW, if both channels will be routed to the same VSTi then only one MIDI track is required, just use two 'modules' in one input transformer and set the note range and output differently.

You can insert 4 VSTi's on the same Midi track in Cubase SX. I hoped to be able to load one Midi effect that could split the keyrange into different Midi Channels. I then would set synth1 to receive Ch.1, synth2 to Ch2 etc. It would be easier to work with and change split point this way instead of having a midi filter per synth.cold c wrote:BTW, if both channels will be routed to the same VSTi then only one MIDI track is required, just use two 'modules' in one input transformer and set the note range and output differently.

I don't know how I forgot that was possible in SX using MIDI sends (probably because I use eXT for that kind of thing now) but yes what you mention should be possible using multiple layers in one input transformer in combination with MIDI sends (transformer plugin again filtering all non matching channels) each routed to a different VSTi.Torben wrote:You can insert 4 VSTi's on the same Midi track in Cubase SX. So as well as the single input transformer above (one module for each split), there would be a transformer for each send restricting the MIDI channel

Or alternatively just use separate MIDI tracks for each VSTi as I mentioned before.

Thanks for your help guys. I guees there's no plugin that will do this in one instance.

Hate to mention the obvious, but if you're using a modular host, this is much easier.Torben wrote:Thanks for your help guys. I guees there's no plugin that will do this in one instance.

might help u a bit. instead of your approach you could filter out notes/ranges. you would need a filter per range obviously..
