Now if you read what I wrote, I want to allow freezing only parts of the song. Meaning that the generators would have to stay there anyway, to process other parts of the song.

They eat too much RAM? Professionals would just buy more RAM, it's cheap, and easy to upgrade (unlike the CPU).
YES EAT TOO MUCH RAM..

dont you get it??
with the multi-gig libraries???

disk streaming?

BFD, DDFHS, gigavst, Trilogy, Kompakt engine romplers, the list goes on..

Damn. I was hoping there was going to be a way to view the new mixer like this.

Not kidding.

there is now with fpc...;)
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

A simple plugin could assist us greatly without causing any problems that you are mentioning.
you mean, you'd be happy with a delay plugin? I can do that in 5 min
It would be a start. You are saying that PDC can't be done and that you won't do it. This would at least be something, which is better than nothing, which is what you seem to be implying that you are willing to do. :-)

I would like a full PDC solution, but I'll take what you are willing to do. I just hope you are willing to do something.

I thought this thread was about a Mixer or summat...

for pdc, something is better than nothing

tony tony chopper wrote:it's not as simple, you can get multiple generators with different latencies rendering in the same mixer track, or worse, a multiout plugin rendering to mixer tracks that have different latencies - and multiout plugins do that behind FL's back (I warned them not to do this but no one cared).
Then you have generators rendering voices where they want, possibly into 2 different mixer tracks (in the worst case), and they can do that before and after other generators. Then you have mixer routing automation (since you can automate the target track).
Then you say the sends are also compensated for, but FL6 has no real send anymore - routing and sending becomes the same thing, just with different levels.
You also have the fruity send that can send after a generators that has latency, and before an effect that has latency. Then you have effects that, like multiout generators, access send (the constant ones) tracks directly without asking FL first.
Then you have VSTi generators that can be inserted as effects, controlled by MIDI out channels.

Actually it's not the peak controller that'll be the problem, but more internal controller generators, and possibly automation, BUT it all depends what they control.

The way I'll do it is probably by delaying all tracks so that they all end up with the same latency BEFORE processing the effects and routing. I think it won't work in a lot of cases.
A comittment!!!! "The way I'll do it..." This is the same as "The way I will do it..." This is wonderful!!!!! I understand that it may not work in all cases. You'll just have to document the exceptions and then we'll have at least something. Thanks!!!

The flexibility in SX is nearly the same...

I have been wanting to ask this question for the longest, but I didn't want to be misconstrued as being a smart-ass. But considering that every major sequencer has PDC (and freezing), I'm not sure I understand why it's such an impossible undertaking in FL Studio. I have to believe that Cubase and Logic are at least as complicated as FLS.

I don't mean any disrespect, but it sounds like a design oversight to me.
oh because maybe you expected me to design FL back in '98 with PDC in mind, when no one knew what PDC was about
PDC CAN be done,
if you believe so, write down a detailed solution for PDC to work in every possible FL project situation
it IS useful, but are YOU willing to make it happen?
are you willing to read? Where did I write it's not useful?
Ok, maybe I was a little heavy-handed in my post. I apologize. BUT, programs like Sonar started long ago, and have evolved to include these features without starting over from scratch. Cakewalk even stated that Sonar 1 was nothing more than Pro Audio 10. It was just that they made so many changes that they decided to give it a different name. They didn't do an entire re-write. They were able to make PDC and Freeze work.
------
I don't know if PDC will be able to work in EVERY situation in FLS. However, I know that there are current solutions for some situations that exist even now. Of course, I recognize that you are aware of this too.
------
I'm willing to read. I understand that you find PDC useful for compressors and such. The second half of the question was, "are YOU willing to make it happen?" I noticed in a later post that you comitted yourself to doing PDC (even if it won't work in EVERY situation, and for the committment, I am grateful.

Thanks again for listening, and all the best.

I would like to not have the RAM all used up too, but I can understand the reasoning you have here, and I think that freezing tracks AND parts would be a FINE compromise. Are you committing yourself to this form of freeze? I noticed in another message in this thread that you committed yourself to PDC (even if it is not a perfect solution). I will be satisfied if you will committ yourself to Freeze. :-)

So, how about it? Any committments?

:-)
