:bang: just spent all day on my entry as i'm not sure i'll have much time elsewhen this month to do it. spent alot of the time making nips and tucks, working out how to get it all within 2 mins! aargh!

still, i'm all for no prizes, and no voting hopefully will prompt more of us to offer up some comments and reviews on the submissions, which after all are the real prize anyway. :)

i won't post my track tonite as i'd intended, i'll probably undo the nips and tucks alittle over the next day or so, but i'm not going to fill up the 4 mins - the comedy i've developed wouldn't stretch that far methinks

No need to apologize, but I appreciate the courteous gesture.

It will be interesting to see how the new format works out.

To make my piece four minutes long, you can listen to it twice in a row :D

I'd need someone to play me some George Duke alike solo lines!
Serious contenders only, please!

I doubt a 'no prizes contest' will stop disagreement and argument, but it may soften it a bit. I have no problem with this at all. :)
Alex,

There is a way to do this, even with prizes, as I demonstrated with my 'won by a hair' win in June. I contacted the developer of the prize that I won (SOUP), and asked if he minded if I sold my license and gave the money to charity. Alex at Progress Audio was very cool about it.

I made an auction of sorts over at the marketplace (which was a pain - I'll just do it on e-Bay next time) and Knockman was the lucky winner.

Knockman picked out which charity he wanted the money to go to, I e-mailed him all the license info, and the charity got the money Knockman paid for the prize. Alex got some good PR on KVR as a result as well.

So, there is a way to do this if the developers are willing.

If you really need a charity to donate to and can't decide, check my signature for a list(Bono haters don't look).
Very cool Scott -- I didn't know how it worked and missed your effort there with Knockers (where the hey was I??? )

I think that's the way to go, though it seems a bit of work and a bit of a haphazard process if we'd want it to be a regular thing, so I wonder if there's a little SUG at KVR with some time that would be able to run such a thing? A group of guys with knowledge of all that e-bay and emailing/posting logistics stuff to help avoid undue errata/problems?

BTW ===> Where is the KVR "Katrina Vurtual Relief CD effort? Let's get on it -- I'm in it with my very best effort. Just lemme know! ;)

Cheers,
AJ

The KvR Radiophonic Workshop

I always liked the name "radiophonic workshop" - I was hoping it would stick as a band name for me, but maybe it will do more good here.

@ Rockstar_not & Knockman, that was very 8) of you all. Just when I distress over the paucity of human decency left in the world, I see it thrives unharmed right in front of my nose. I have never donated as much to charity as I have this year, and I still don't think it's enough, but I can't help feeling somewhat ashamed and guilty for my excess fortune in light of the calamity that has befallen so many around me. Calamities whose roots may entwine and entangle me. And it's not like I'm some rich and powerful person, but I do have my family, my health and my home and a few prospects for earning money. I can offer something.

Back to retuning the synth again...

Take one night off from gossiping and see what happens?

I've always been an advocate for longer time limits on the songs. 4 min. maximum time does not mean you have to write 4 minutes of music. If you only have time for 2 minutes and can adequately cover the theme in that time, I for one will not count it against anyone. There have been shorter than 2 minute songs in past contests that were just fine. In my mind the extra time should be looked at as a cushion for those who want to develop more evolving themes. The only problem is that people on slower internet connections will have a much harder time downloading the longer songs. I don't know how anyone on dial-up does it with 60 2 min songs to be honest. (I have dial-up at home but broadband at work, so guess where I do my downloads from.)

And for what I wanted to do this month, 4 minutes is just perfect. :hihi:

No prizes?

Exactly what I've been thinking while reading the last 3 pages of this thread. Why not take this tribute to Dr. Moog and turn it into just that? To me, a tribute to Dr. Moog would be worth buying. Coupling it with such a worthy cause, doubly so.

No voting? In my mind it no longer is a competition in that case. But if you make it a Hurricane Katrina Relief CD, then who needs a competition?

That's cool, baby, I'm entering the tribute/workshop anyway!

***edit*** Just don't let anyone go and claim that longer time limits are what cause fewer people to enter this month!

Not to compound issues here, but on the subject of charity and donations, I think Bob Moog's family had requested that donations in his honor be made through Caring Bridge -

i'm off for 3 weeks, no computer but the week-end (and that's even not sure). fearing i wouldn't be able to achieve something in time, i made this track - WHICH IS NOT MY OFFICIAL ENTRY, even though it is tagged as such.

the fact that the rules and context have changed and the fact that i'm not at all happy with this track are the reasons why i don't post it in the official Submission thread.

i'll try to come up with something more interesting by the end of the month.

nonetheless, if you're still interested, you can listen to this untrue entry here:

if you don't like irony, don't even try to download this.

as a sidenote: don't get it wrong, i have a lot of respect for Mr. Moog, he was a genius and a gentleman (as i've been told).

comments and bashing welcome (i may change the mix later).

I don't know, I think it's a pretty damned fine piece of work. I'd like to hear it developed just a bit more, the music at the end was wonderful and the intro is simultaneously respectful and humorous. I say good work! Hope you can do more on it.

Interesting toon wopelka. i like the ending more than the talky bit, but that's just me I guess. Nice personal thing.
