crusherX-Live/Studio is in a class by itself. Apart from that there are loads of excellent granular gadgets in the Reaktor premium and user libraries (Florian Erdle's 'White Grains' and 'Orange Grains' are mindblowing).

None of the freeware/shareware I've seen, sadly enough, is in the same league. Audio Mulch has excellent native granulisers, and KT Granulator (by Koen Tanghe of Smartelectronix) is based on those.

Cronox 2 and 3 do a little and are both excellent....

AudioMulch. KT Granulator is very nice, but lacks the bite of 'Mulch's DLgranulator which will squeal when the feedback is pushed way up.

Yep, Cronox3 is using Granular, but not 100percent like the others. CronoX3 splits every loaded WAV/AIFF file into 128 grains, that's all but that's ofcourse enuff, check out the demo Version and load your own stuff into it...

I have found no better granular tools than those in Csound. These are really easy to code (since the meat and potatoes are precoded in the opcode). Seriously, if you are interested in granular synthesis then this is the software to use. There is also a freeware Csound app called Density which is far beyond and VST Iv tried. And CDP has extensive granular features.

But if it has to be a VST plugin, then Id probably go with Reaktor. Apparently there are loads of really great granular instruments for this software.

KT Granulator gets high marks from most people, but Im yet to see it perform. But thats probably just me.

I do like the Arch Dev stuff though, some cool glitchy granular plugins!

And if you are considering Reason, it has a module called Malstrom which is a grain table synth, and produces some interesting results. Used in Atmosphere enough times.

I do love KTGranulator, it's just a shame I haven't got the foggiest on how to programme granular stuff. After subtractive synthesis I know I'm definitately not in Kansas anymore. For the moment it's presets all the way.

Could you maybe post a link of the "Arch Dev" stuff. Google comes up with
a lot of other things ... RS

Hmm, dont have one of the top of my head. Should be in the list here at KVR, in the 'Instruments, Effects, Hosts etc' section.

Sorry, I dont have time to look for you, busy busy busy
