I'm in - but I don't think my stuff is worthy of the CD as I typically come in just a few clicks above 1/2-way up the list.

I don't know that KVRians represent the buying public, but I have to take in consideration the fact that I consistently score in this portion of the list, whilst others like yourself, Beardedone, Barnadine, DT, Knockman, utm, guitarjeff, et. al. seem to be consistently farther up (and for good reason).

I think we would eventually have to have some kind of a vote to determine final tracks to fit onto the CD. 74min / 4 min/track = 17 or 18 tracks and a little bit of fade time in between.

Perhaps mashup-extraordinaire Techbot could do the assemblage of songs into one long unbroken moogfest for charity.

Your songs are EMINENTLY QUALIFIED for such an endeavor!! Have you listened to your songs lately??

For Ixox sake, just because you get out of our unknown, unheard of, mainly ignored bodgey little weeny KVR contest in an obscure corner of the galaxy at number 32 or whatever doesn't mean your songs are bad! At least 90% of the contest entries are awesome -- listen to them all on Techbot or Markleford radio -- hear them in segue and you'll think you're listening to the Billboard T-50 Countdown! They're awesome!

Right about the judging thing though as to who goes on the CD, but I reckon it'd be more like we wouldn't have enough for even one! And if we did, we go with a double set!

I see no problems here except the general will to get it done

well i'll probably still "enter" this month even tho theres no voting (???) but one thing i def will do is as soon as I finish my track im going to review it myself so i can compare my review to what others think etc

should help me with future compositions

I agree with that. If we were forced to put all entries on a 1-10 sacale the difference between those half-way down the list the one at the top would probably be less than a 2 point spread. That doesn't make the one rated an 9.2 out of 10 is bad, it simply means that there's a lot of 9.23 to 10 out of 10 songs!

I'd say the quality, creativity and diversity represented here is way out of the norm. In general, 80% of anything is crap. When it comes to these monthly contests, I'd be really hard pressed to label 1 or 2 entries out of 60 as "crap."

Each of us probably have styles of music that we simply won't vote for out of personal taste, but I for one will at least acknowledge the talent displayed in the competition entries.

Also, that *other* 10% I think are maybe not so good in the contests, would equate to, say, the '2 minutes of silence' songs that people seem to like so much. I think it's crap because anyone can do a cover of it!

I read a quote from an artist in the paper the other day who said something like when it comes to art (which I consider a lot of music) she much prefers glorious failures to mediocre successes. I agree. I find my music so blatantly full of mistakes, missed opportunities and lackluster presentation that I can't listen to it much after posting for a long time. Ironically the stuff I don't labor over and/or collaborate on I find more enjoyable even if it doesn't elicit the same appreciation in others (like my last attempt).

Point is: I have forsaken so much commercially released stuff, I have to force myself to pick up magazines and listen to the radio once in awhile just to find out what's current. I much prefer the company here. I don't care if it's not good enough for some record executive or the general public - it's good enough for me. I don't care about genres or styles. I'm beyond worrying about that. The last thing I want to download is the formulaic mediocre swill I'm trying to escape from. I know there's a few who greatly respect and even aspire to emulate the performance and polish of music industry stars and their records, but it doesn't impress me. Almost anybody can learn to engineer sound. How many can create something fresh or different that captures your imagination enough that you really don't care the technical details? I hear plenty of those songs here each month and that (along with the sniping in this here GOSSIP thread) keeps me coming back.

Yes, I agree with Gordon -- well said really.

Of course, when your only radio station is in a language called 'pu tong hua', you don't find yourself tuning in to the top 40 as much...

Still love me albums though. Listening to Miles' "This IS Jazz" as we speaketh -- an absolute classic bar none.

I don't know, I think it's a pretty damned fine piece of work. I'd like to hear it developed just a bit more, the music at the end was wonderful and the intro is simultaneously respectful and humorous. I say good work! Hope you can do more on it.
