Barf, yeh, there is an effect called crazy ivan. that thing can wreak some serious havoc on anything you put through it. i haven't used it in a while, but now you've got me wanting to experiment with it again.

It is a less hostile way of saying, "Your question is meaningless, you are looking only at the tool as the source of the product. The tool is just a means. You are the source. I'll see you on page 20 of this thread after every synth ever made has been added to the list."

It just isn't as funny if we type that out every time. In fact, that last bit is I think the origin of the joke. After a list of a 1000 synths for trance, someone surely said, "And don't forget One Ping Only." There after, the first post merely cut to the chase. It has become the proverbial kitchen sink.

Funnier still is that One Ping Only can be a fairly useful thing. But I know, you don't get it. Such is life.

There should probably be a FAQ that, of course, no one will read that has stuff like this in it.

I like the idea of a FAQ that no one reads. It should solve all of the riddles of the universe, and instruct lonely men on how to pick up chicks (which I guess is the big riddle of the universe. Screw 'why?', we want the good loving).

after about 1000 "trance lead" threads, someone scrolled to a random useless plug and pasted the link. Hence, the onepingonly joke was born.

Absolute truth. I tell myself this every time I try to make the perfect patch, or find a new synth to capture the sound I hear in my mind. The end product is all that counts - and all the bullshit about the perfect this or that is superfluous if you can't get along armed with a good idea. I often feel (hatefully so) that my constant experimenting with new VSTs is just a glorified form of procrastination and timewasting, when I've got so little completed music done in the months I've had the equipment to.

Ron,

Shamann's dissertation above is perfect as it is. In this case, however, I was lauging because despite all the jokes, and SAP's clearly tongue-in-cheek review, someone still grabs for the bait and asks for a link. Never fails.

Along with an FAQ noone reads, maybe we need a "OnePingOnly"/tarnce synth sticky (that noone reads).
