I use rechargable batteries in my EZ-EG. They last pretty long if I keep the speaker turned down!

Hi everybody,
I got a cheap power adapter froma local store and it works fine. It has a 3-12 VDC switchable output and is rated at 800mA, which is more than enough. Anything higher is no problem as the guitar will only use what it wants. The voltage and polarity of the connector are important. These adapters usualy come with an assortment of connectors, and in the manual Yamaha specify a centre(+). Mine cost about $10.
cheers

Sorry if this question has already been asked
but has anyone been able to figure out how to
use the EZ to control standalone synth modules?
Is there some hardware widget that can merge
the individual string channels?

Hi krraqk, did you get your AG yet ?

To try your stuff, download the package again.
Replace the EZ_AG 3.hta file (v. 3.12).
The MIDIX.ocx file should also be replaced, as there was a bug (memory leak) with reading MIDI files. Then dble-click register.bat.

The new trigger file is ..\EZ_AG_data\Extra\extra triggers.txt . You need to copy it to the user folder and rename it "Triggers Default.txt".
You can edit the file in notepad. To try it , save it and then hit F5 in the EZ-AG/EG app, this will reload the script with the changes.

Sending pitch wheel data is done using the + button on the EZ.
To adjust the pitchwheel, look for this line:
MakePitchArray 1, -1, 2, 0.2, 20
And see the description of the parameters.
This example would create 20 pitch wheels from -1 to 2 semi tones, in 0.2 sec.
You need to define your synth, vsti pitch range like this (in semi tones):
Const PW_MIN = -2
Const PW_MAX = 2

In this script the Plate is used to turn on/off the modwheel (cc1).

I also use the Song Select button to turn all notes off.

Yup, this works great, but is there any possible
way to play soundmodules without a computer?
Some sort of midi merge hardware?

Not sure exactly what you're looking for, but you could ask these people:

And check the prices first :-o

Cool....thanks their Midi Router may be what
I'm looking for....got to research it a bit more.
What I want is something will merge the individual
string channels into one so I can play hardware
synths without a computer.

spuddle wrote:I'm enjoying my EZ-AG purchase which was of course bought thanks to the wealth of information and useful scripts found here. Thanks guys!

My friends love the thing and can't keep their hands off it. I think the saving for a Ztar will begin soon though, really need the velocity sensitive frets!

Here is a little take done on the EZ-AG for you guys:

If I can get my webcam + audio working at same time then I'd liket o do some vids to help others trying to decide on purchasing the system. :)
I like the tone what is it..sound a liitle like a cp-70 or 80 piano....is it free samples ..I'd like a copy

Sorry for the late reply!
I have been busy overhauling my PC with formats and such so not had a chance to catch up on things.

Anyway to answer your question I am using the mostly excellent samples that come with Reason and also have just gotten round to updating to version 3.0.3 mmm lovely Combinators. I have made the sound a little juicer now! Sorry though that the samples arn't free since they come as Reason Refills.

I'm going to show some more stuff i've done with the Yamaha EZ-AG as soon as I get my audio stuff reinstalled.

Don't forget the videos 8)

I'm still into string/plucked instruments, small demo playing a Kora (African lute/harp) and a Dulcimer.

Well...
After 2/3 days with the toy I cant say for sure if Im more loving or fighting it.

It needs a great effort to acomodate to the playing. Every type of playing needs different settings in the script and what works with a legato lead will not work with a finger picking style.

The most hard thing to do naturally for me is the left/right hand simultaneously. For some reason I get many muted notes,it seems very difficulto to syncrhonize left and right hand (something that I have no probs with a normal guitar). The hammer on and pull off in the script dont seem to work as good as in the no script way. Without script I can do very easy hammers and pulls offs, but with those settings in the script I rarely get the desired results, dont know why. With no-script there is that anoying every fret on note.

There is a little ex. in my first day playing mainly legato only with only the left hand:

http://s53.yousendit.com/d.php?id=2APIN ... QOWI52TPCK
There I need to improve the playing in order to avoid ghost notes, but I think that its possible.

Marc: About the script modifications that you have made after my sugesstions:

First and more important, many thanks for your time and help!.

The plate/vibrato is not very controllablè while playing, probably caused by the nature and position of the plate. It starts randomly, Im trying to change the plate by the "song select" or "sound select" button, I think it would be more controllable.
Im trying to figure how to change the code in the triggers.txt.

About the pitch bend Im also trying to figure how to assign the "minus" button to a (button down = -1 semitone) and "plus" button to a (button up +2 semitone).

I have made this edit (but it not works at all 8)):

Code: Select all

MakePitchArray 0, 0, 0, PWT, 1 ' reset
MakePitchArray 1, 0, 2, 0.1, 20
MakePitchArray 2, 0, -1, 0.1, 20
and

Code: Select all

OnButtonDown(BT_PLUS) = Array(True, "PitchWheel 1")
OnButtonUp(BT_PLUS) = Array(True, "PitchWheel 0")
OnButtonDown(BT_MINUS) = Array(True, "PitchWheel 2")
OnButtonUp(BT_MINUS) = Array(True, "PitchWheel 0")
I would need to edit other things or there is a mistake in the modifications that I have posted?

Thats all for now, hmmm... where is my yammy?

(African lute/harp) and a Dulcimer.

Forgot to say... sounds very natural, great results from the yammy.
Good musicality also.

Greetings

Hi krraqk,
It takes a little time to get used to the EZ.
Now, I agree that the script could be a little more 'tolerant'. The problem right now is that I have more ideas than time, but will try to look into it.

> The plate/vibrato is not very controllable ..
I agree, not that useful, use a foot pedal :D
To assign a cc to a button enter this in your ..User\Triggers Default.txt file:

Code: Select all

'------------------------------------------------------
' Sending a CC using a button
OnButtonDown(BT_SOUND) = Array(True, "SendCC 1, 127")
OnButtonUp(BT_SOUND) = Array(True, "SendCC 1, 0")

Sub SendCC(cc, val)
 Dim data
 data = Array(&HB0+lChannel, cc, val)
 Midi.SendMidiEvent MidiOut(0), -1, data
End Sub
'-----------------------------------------------------
>About the pitch bend ..
Your code is correct, working fine here.
Make sure that you have the PW_MIN and PW_MAX set correctly, as well as your synth (I'm not sending the RPN in the script).
