Imo, Atmogen lacks the elements that makes Metasynth so cool. Like being able to easily swap audio between the image synth, image filter and audio editor. In MS you can also tune any image to scales, which is so useful. All this allows things that just cannot be achieved with Atmogen. At the end of the day Atmogen is just an additive synth will a fun graphical interface.
Ofcourse, get the demo! I have it and have used it loads. But to pay 400 sheets or whatever for the full version is just silly. Id rather buy an old G3 Imac and a copy of Metasynth 2.7. It would cost you less.
As for emulators, I can say much unfortunately. I run Metasynth 2.6 in Sheepshaver. Its not good, very slow, always crashing. I shall have to get onto ebay and find a cheap G3 I think.

So the freebie is the better of the two? - not unusual I supposetee boy wrote:Forget Atmogen, its shite. My advice is to run Metasynth under a Mac emulator. Its not problem free, but atleast you get the real deal.
Coagula is great through, especially for a freebie.

Amused,
Probably, yes! The interface is much simpler and easier to use. Yet the feature sets a scarely similar. Atmogen seems to have loads of really pointless features that make it over complex to use. Metasynth on the other hand is a dream to work with and is loaded with features that make me want actually want to buy a Mac (is that aint good testimonial, nothing is!).

From what I've seen of Metasynth I'll admit to having felt that way myself (plus Logic 7.1/sculpture and that tasty looking MOTU synth).

The soundhack functions are slowly being brought over to PC (and updated on mac) in the form of vst instruments though, and looking good. It's something I'd like to try out though. Having a mac and pc would please me greatly.
