This is a pretty obscure question, but there might be someone out there who can answer it.

A few years ago I heard a report on BBC radio about some kind of sampling (or maybe resynthesis) instrument that could analyse recordings and automatically create a playable version for you. The emphasis seemed to be on old recordings, and the demonstration given was an old scratchy recording of an organ, which resulted in a near-perfect facsimile, complete with all the scratches and noise.

The instrument was called something like the XXXharmonium or XXXmonium. Does anyone know what it was?
