Thought I'd bump this thread, as I just tried this thing out.

Yeah, this plug squashes the mix like FM radio. This is quite the plug-in, truly a secret weapon (have only had it installed for 5 minutes). Don't know how to control it, but just using the setting that comes standard with it is quite cool. Great plug if you just need to master something quickly or something. Makes my sorry ass, effed up mix sound pretty damn decent.

oh, and make sure you read the text file, there is one (small) file you have to manually place in your c: drive (regardless of whether this is your OS drive or not)

After another 20 minutes or so of testing I can tell that this thing is a double edged sword. It instantly makes your mix sound upfront and commercial sounding, but then you notice that it squashes some things in an aggitating way, like an edgy slight distortion from the compression sound.

This thing is not subtle... I'm debating whether to plan on keeping this long term or stick it in the trash bin. Think I'll keep it a little while anyway.

Had to try it out just out of curiosity... makes everything sound like radio garbage indeed.

But with suitable settings, I can definitely find some use for this, especially for dealing with prefab loops from sample libraries - I would never ever even conside any sort of "mastering" with this but damn, it could do some magic on individual tracks and especially percussive loops (listening to a number of my own tracks where all CPU is spent on getting the percussion to the level of quality I'm satisfied with... and this does some neat things)

Definitely needs a GUI, though for now messing with the config file is something I'll do tonight, just to see what it can do under some sort of control...

And don't forget to post your settings :)
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

well this is a BROADCAST processor not a mastering tool... and it is aimed at making it LOUD....

I offered to do a GUI back in the days but since it is not finished yet we "shoved it on the long bank"

yeah I'm german, too :hihi:

thanks for bumping this.. I see hes updated the plugin from when I got it last. :)

though I'd still be scared to use this on a full mix.. whats going to happen IF (yeah big if there) my music gets on the radio or rebroadcast somehow.. theres going to be another one of these (in some form) at the station right? wouldnt that just double the problem? :o

This really surprised me!

I had carefully been cutting out below 50 and highs to get more headroom on a song before throwing it through buzzmax3, and it had a little bit of pumping at a few points after that.
I tried the result through energize then, which actually just added more treble because it was already heavily limited.
But then I tried with the file that had not yet been processed, and I was shocked to hear how there was absolutely no pumping at all, but now as loud as the version that was put through buzzmax3!
Furthermore, the treble that it added I´m happy with, cause the song I´m working on doesn´t have much treble in it because of the instruments I´ve chosen to use in it, and it´s just good to hear the frequency spectrum being filled out more.

All this I did with winamp, because my wavelab fails to load energize II.
Does anybody else have this problem?
Best Regards

Many people will not download gui-less vsts much less use them.

I give them a chance, but have found very few keepers like the mda series

Will give this a shot tonight. :D
Actually I've put together quite a collection of GUIless VST's recently because I've found that in hosts like Tracktion and EnergyXT that have nice clear visual editors for guiless plugins they integrate very well into the host environment. Also many sound better but use less resources than some of the fancier looking VST's with GUI's - substance over style.

Indeed, aMUSEd!! Of course, if you ever decide you want a slick GUI to go with some of those plug-ins, or even as an "alternative" version, there IS a revolving-door policy at BetabugsAudio. <big grin>

Or are you saying that you're collecting GUI-less VSTs? (as opposed to creating them) I might have misunderstood. :D

Talking about GUI-less plugins, i'd love to see a GUI for obertone filterbank, I think it's an amazing filter but the bugger has a lot of parameters & often a well thought out GUI can help one understand a plug in better y'know the signal flow etc.

did you make sure to put the EnergizeII.in file in your root of c:\ like the instructions say?

sounds quite nice to me on drum-submixes and the like.

But it does introduce a latency not compensated by Cubase SX3.1 here. So I guess the latency is not correctly reported to the host. (or is it just me?)
