Didn't they use preset #01 on any cheapo Casio home keyboard?

AHA, ofcourse!! It's a trick question, right?
Drum'nBass only contains Drum and Bass. No piano...

I'd guess that some of the old Korg samples (M1, Wavestation etc.) might do the trick. Could you post an mp3 of the specific type of sound you're after? (I think I know what you mean, but I am not sure...)

the sound got its typical sound from being sampled and sampled again. It's often the same sample playing the whole melody.
