if you're getting paid, how much do you charge? and how much is the avergare rate of a new producer?

Post

call around locally. find out.

i personally have kind of recently started recording bands (recently as in a year or two) and just start off at $15/hr recording time only... but im really nice about that :)

i do mixdowns for $20 per song which is highway robbery... for them :)

once i build up more of a client list im going to start upping the prices.

no im not talking about just mixing down. Im talking composing a whole song or remix. Do you think $300.00 per song is reasonable? I dont know where to compare the rate

if you have to ask then it's too much, breaking into the business gets harder and harder...you may have to take your losses to gain a rep...once you have a solid rep then you dont have to ask how much to charge, you will tell them how much you're gonna charge...;)
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I'd say:

Composing + recording a song (let's say the client only does vocals) = 400$ - 1000$
Remix (meaning you get tracks to use...) = 100$ if you're unknown, 300$ if you've already got a name and XXYYZ if you're already in the game.

I assume you are guessing Soulata. A "name" could never survive on those figures.

Soundaddik,it will either be negotiable or not. It will be a flat fee and/or points or royalties later or a combo. It would depend who its for and who comissions. Flat fee is ITRO £8k but my comissions are diectly from labels. I've had good points deals too but thats a gamble and some have bombed big time. Think about what you want.... Money or cred or artistc freedom. There goes the "producer" word again. I dont have a great deal of spare time but if you have a comission and need some advice pm me and i'll get back to you. Ensure you have the right to a credit on the record/cd and sleeve...Its not automatic.

I was guessing a bit - a name meaning not totally unknown but still far from a star.

edit: my friend gets around 2000$ per remix and he's not very well known yet, he does a great job though

btw, I'm not from US so prices might be a lot different overthere.

It depends who will benefit most from it. If its a well-known artist that will give your remixing talent some exposure, you should be busting a gut to do it for free. If its some lame-arse rock band who want a dance remix because they think it will make them cool, then something like $400-$500 should be reasonable, if you do a good job. It also depends on what they want to do with it. We recently did a remix for Dope Stars Inc - we missed the deadline but they liked the remix so they are going to put it on their site with a link to our's. We aren't getting any money from it but it should [hopefully] generate some cross-pollination between their fan-base and ours [such as it is] which is OK with us.
