Isn't music amazing.

You can be aware of truly important artists for years but, because there are so many and increasingly little time to listen, you get into them "late".

Anyway, after years of being on my todo list I finally got Daydream Nation and it's bloody fantastic !

Anyone got tips for other albums...I hear that Goo is supposed to be pretty good ?

all the recent ones with jim o'rourke - murray street and sonic nurse are fun too - oh an anything on the SYR (sonic youth records) label is well..... experimental but sister is the one for me -

but thats because large chunks of it were in the amazing wheels on fire skateboarding video back in the day

natas spinning on top of a fire hydrant i still the best peice of skating ever
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

it'll take a teenage riot to get me out this sleepy stupor

okay...

Sister
Dirty
Washing machine
Confusion is sex
1000 leaves
Murray Street

Goo is good but but not brilliant. Does have an awesome cover though

I take it you're a fan of big black, dinosaur (jr), husker du, etc?

You might like the theroretical girls and DNA (not the dance act) as well

Would you regard Daydream Nation as their classic album ?

It seems to be, but they are a working band and have continued to expand their sound over the last 5-10 years, and have started to do some excellent improv stuff in splinter bands

You can get a Theoretical Girls track, some Sonic Youth tracks, and a whole bunch of other no-wave, and no-wave inspired goodies over at Epitonic's No-Wave Page

Where you been - ooh what a record. One of the soundtracks to my teenage years, especially the angst ones!!

I really liked "Experimental Jet Set, Trash & No Star" but i think that's more to do with it being my first sonic youth album.

Funnily enough i was watching some live sets of their's via the winamp tv medial library this weekend and forgot how great 100% is live. :D

that ones got bull in the heather on, hasnt it? its really quiet compared to their other stuff

Yeah it is quite quiet, the album is a real grower yet i've never really seen anyone praise it before, Self Obsessed is a great track on there too, and it's one of those albums you can pick up for a few quid. :D

Strange that nobody mentioned Goo yet...

And NY Ghosts & Flowers. Gotta love that one.

yeah, and that screaming skull track which is a list of bands 8)
