I downloaded UltraISO (free) from download.com
installed it.
Ran it
1.In the bottom pane, I selected the iso file. I then went to tools-->convert.
Selected convert to .nrg (nero file)
it makes a converted copy.
delete the original uncompressed iso file (make sure you keep the orig. zip though!)
Now you have an .nrg file which is similar to an .iso file.
2.again, go to tools-->convert. Now convert the .nrg file back to an iso file. The program converts it to a legit .iso file it or any burner can read.
3.Then go to tools-->burn cd image.
Select then *NEW* iso file and it should burn it to your cd!

worked for me, free, and once I figured it out, it only took 5min. I am now installing the prog as I type. Hope that helps.

If you are running into troubles with this file, here's what to do:
1) Extract. The resulting file should be something with an .iso ending.
2) Rename the file to .nrg. Anything else but Nero doesn't seem to be supported anyways. In case you know of some tool supporting Nero's .nrg format, use that for a try. In case it fails, get yourself a demo of Nero, which should work for a certain period of time. Alternatively, do what I've done and get an OEM version of Nero with some hardware you may need. Costed me 1.99 Euro.
3) Ignore the burning part but get yourself the free Daemon Tools and mount the .nrg file as a virtual CD.

That should get everybody sorted.

Unfortunately the newest Nero version on their site and Download.com is demo-limited when burning images: it won't work. UltraIso was free and worked quickly- I'm happy with the 45 min I've had it so far!

I tried renaming the iso to .nrg, bt it still wouldn't work in a couple of burn progs for me.

In UltraIso, I could convert to a legit .nrg and then back to a legit .iso that works in everything. -Probably a number of different ways to do it I imagine.

I burned the cd to have a hard copy for back up.
(NOTE TO ULTRA ISO USERS: the program will let you mount the iso to a virtual drive, but you must first use the daemon tools to mount a hard drive in the first place)

Alex Feinman's ISO Recorder doesn't work with this. Shame, as it's a very good little piece of free software. It would appear NERO is the best option, or something that can burn .nrg files.

God luv 'em for releasing this for free...but they should have made it easier. I finally got mine up and running but there are others who are probably more frustrated than I was.

I briefly read thru the cdburnerXP docs, it stated that the isolevel2 standard is used for win OS. so I guess that firstly you have to verify that you got a complete file from the RB-museum, and then burn the .iso with for example CDBXP using iso-level2...does this sound right? Those of you who used CDBXP, how did you go about it?

Now I know I'll probably get shot down in flames for this but I just felt the need to say this.

Firstly, this is NOT directed at any one individual here at all, so if anyone takes this personally, that's not my intention and I will not apologise for it

How many times do we see debates on here and many other music forums about the price of software, or the validity or invalidity of pirated/cracked software ? How often do individuals get heated and rant & rave about what a rip off certain products are, or how can people who once shared their wares freely have now decided to make a living from their hard work ?

A lot.

So, when one of the major music software manufacturers decides to retire one of it's major works and distribute it to the community free of charge, without any catches or caveats, they get shot down in flames by the very same community who bemoan the payware ethics. Complaints of slow servers, CD protection, out of date product, email harvesting, lack of open source code, no Linux version, why isn't it a VSTi, no ASIO support, unacceptable latency, strange .iso images that aren't compatible with all burning software and so on, have been rife not only here on KvR but other places too.

What do these people actually want ??

It seems to me that these people would only be satisfied if Propellerheads, for example, provided bespoke versions of their products, each individually designed for the individual who is purchasing it, written in their code of choice, with all their little requests woven in to the code and given to them in a velvet pouch on a silver platter for absolutely no cost whatsoever.

Don't get me wrong, I love free software. I have loads of legitimate free stuff on my PC and I thank those who develop it and release it from the bottom of my heart. But the level of flak and criticism levelled at the Props for their infinitely generous gesture is frankly vile and unwarranted.

If there are people and companies that are able to proliferate free software for the benefit of the community as a whole, they should be lauded and praised and we should be grateful and gracious in our compliments. If we have legitimate suggestions or constructive criticisms of freeware, they should be voiced to the authors in a respectful manner. If we have not paid for something, we have little, if any, grounds to complain or deride. On the other hand, if we have spent our hard earned £200 on something that is severely lacking, then we have every right to demand a fix or voice our disappointment.

Like I said, this is not aimed at any one individual. I have seen derogatory comments referring to the ReBirth situation in many places. I just felt the need to vent my spleen

And I'd just like to say thanks and pay respect to Propellerheads for their gesture. ReBirth has always been a favourite of mine and I have rediscovered this gem over the last few days. It took some time to download, but that was fixed when the torrent was made available and I made one new coaster when my first burn failed, but I'm all sorted now

I'm now running to hide with my fire extinguisher under a fire proof blanket
