I create an audio track under my midi tracks, record enabled button on the audio track is lit, I select "what you hear" on my Audigy recording mixer, then press record in cubase SX.Playback begins and I start tweaking wildly on the cutoff of my Audiorealism bassline synth, but when Ive finished all Im left with is a blank box on the audio track ?? why isnt cubase sx recording the sounds being produced, please help

cubase isnt really designed for that method...
what you should likely do is do it cubase's way - read about recording automation then exporting your automation and midi to audio..

But you can still pull it off, with the free Voxengo Recorder VST plug inford442 wrote:cubase isnt really designed for that method...
Recorder is a VST plug in, just put it in your VST folder and open it IN Cubase.

Im a bit confused as I thought thats what the record enable button on the audio track was for? but thanx anyway Im downloading that voxengo plugin now..cheers
I took a sawtooth wave off this Pantomime4, looped it back, mixed it with the sound of this crab committing suicide and let it stew in its own reverb for about 3 hours, then I pumped it all out through this shoe to give it that oak'y timbre.

No, that's there to enable you to select [multiple] tracks to record on.solstice wrote:Im a bit confused as I thought thats what the record enable button on the audio track was for?
There are other ones like it, i don't know which suits you best, but Voxengo = quality anyway.solstice wrote:Im downloading that voxengo plugin now..cheers

it seems like you're totally missing the point of having a full featured sequencer such as Cubase...

How about reading in the manual about record enable, input selection and VST-Connections... that should get you up & running.

record enable page 89 in the sx 2 'Getting started' manual or page 114 in the sx3 manual.
And why you'd want to record the audio of a VST is beyond me ? why don't you record midi like everybody else.
