Quote from aticle:
"Marsalis and special guests will highlight the Higher Ground Hurricane Relief Concert, to take place September 17 at Rose Theater in New York. The event will be recorded by Jazz at Lincoln Center. A CD from the event will be released by Blue Note Records with all profits going to relief funds.
Putumayo World Music is also donating proceeds from the sale of two records, "New Orleans," and "Mississippi Blues," to relief efforts, through year's end.
In the digital realm, Napster began selling a "Download to Donate" compilation September 1, with profits going to the American Red Cross. CD Baby, where thousands of independent artists sell their music online, set up a special page to sell CDs from those who wanted their profits to go to the Red Cross."

It looks like we're not the only one's doing this, which is good to know. Also, the CDbaby thing caught my attention. I'm going to look into it as a possible means of sales and distrubution.

Good to see so many songs coming in!!
Xander, add me to the pending songs list. Hopefully I'll have mine done by the end of this week.

okay.. worked out the composition of the song.. just need to rerecord some bits.. and if I manage to get minimonsta.. swap that in for the free thingy... and then mix it.. and add a few spot effects...

When's the deadline xander/freeztar?..

I can give you a preview now if you want to hear the.. erm.. direction of the track to help position it.. but it's far from finished.

Yeah Ben, I read that about the CD Baby deal. Cool. :)

Added your song to the list. ;)

I think the deadline as it stands is maybe end of week/weekend?

As soon as Freezy gets home from work, we'll have a chat about it. Let we know whatever you find out about the CD Baby thing?

Thanks & Cheers Mate,
Alex

I figure it's a good idea to start on the marketing of this. We need two things before we can lift-off with advertising.
1. A Banner Ad
2. A website

Anyone interested in taking these on? For the design work, it will be good to see what pHz has brewing so that there is cohesiveness.

phz?? How's it coming along?

I would do the website, but I'm already doing sites for myself and another client, finishing school, working full time, interviewing for other jobs, finishing two projects, mixing two others, and trying to find time for the wife. I don't think I'll have the time. I will help with hosting if nobody else can. But we'll wait on that one. Hopefully somebody has a domain name slot open. It's another couple bucks a month for me to add another one. I'm already hosting six or seven others.

Anyways, sorry I can't help more there.

It's OK mate -- you're already doing a heap, so no worries. ;)

We need a generous KVR mate to help with a domain & a bit of space. I reckon the space required wouldn't be very much -- just enough to advertise the CD & provide some info, background, ordering forms & links?

Where are ye kind musical brother?

Well maybe we should consider a couple things here that we need. First, the domain. Only ten bucks or less, depending on where you register it. I use GoDaddy for any domains that aren't part of packages, and they are wonderful. Only ten bucks a year with lots of extras. I'm sure someone here has an extra domain they can host in their account. These things also need to be added to the list.

Also, another "list" item of things to take care of, is payment processing. Paypal is definately an option, and a must. I use 2Checkout, it works real nice. Because of business at the moment(Did I mention my wife and I have a small business?), I would rather not use my 2Checkout, since it reports things as "Heaven's Sake Music" products. But these are options.

Just thought I'd add those to the ongoing list of things needed. I'm sure we will come up with something. If I can in any way use what I have, I will if absolutely needed.

I'm happy to use my webspace, but it would look something like http://katrina.freeztar.us
Perhaps I'll just buy a domain and add it to my hosting. Unless someone else has a better solution (ie free).

Oh, and who is taking responsibility of actually receiving and forwarding the funds. As with any charity project, this needs to be handled delicately. It needs to be stated EXACTLY where the funds will go on the website, and there needs to be SOME proof that it actually got there. There are so many shady charities out there these days that some people are skeptical, and you just need proof.

Sorry, just mentioning things as needed, to help this go smoother and to not run into roadblocks later.

You could register it with Godaddy.com for cheap, like I said, and again, with the skepticism these days, it will look more legit if it went to an address that looks professional. So I think it's the way to go.

www.katrinareliefcd.com

is available there for $8.95 a year. That was the first one I checked. Does that sound good? Anyone want to register it? If not, but if everyone likes the name, I'll register it. Really, it's no problem, so let me know. I can add it to my account and change the DNS settings to your webspace(whomever hosts it).

The same name with ".org" is also available.

I have a PayPal store up and running at http://www.scienceforums.com/puzzlestore.php

I have checked and I can run virtual domains on my site. I'd only be happy to offer hosting and the use of our PayPal solutions - as for order reviews, we could have some third-party person handle the orders.

As for the popup banners currently on my site - they would of course NOT appear on a relief site!

Let me know if this is of interest. BTW it's a linux/mysql/php server.
