Here's a message I got back from CDbaby.com:

Absolutely.

If 100% (!) of the profits are going to charity, you can sign up here for free
and we will contribute our $35 setup cost to your project.

(In other words, yes it really does cost us $35 to set up a new album in the
store, but we will waive that if you are sending the profits to charity.)
:D

Good for them! Glad to see CDBaby isn't palying the "let's rack in some dough 'cause others are suffering" game.

Ok, I need some reassurance, I have a vocalist ready to sing on the track, I just need to know the deadline for the subbmission date, I can garante that it will be an awesome tune.
I really want to help out!!

also, who's managing the pressing/distribution etc??
(sorry for not partaking in this thread so much)

No strict deadline, but the sooner the better. Maybe shoot for the end of the week, but if it takes a little longer you should be ok as there are still some issues to iron out.

Distribution will likely be with cdbaby.com as they have already offered their services for free (see post above).
Pressing is being worked on right now. The main hurdle for pressing is figuring out how to pay for it, but that shouldn't be a huge setback.
Anyone have any funding ideas?

ok, great, if there is a possibility for 2 weeks deadline from now, than I'll whip up a really great tune!

Ask the people at CDbaby about it. Figure out how much the pressing will total, then tell CDbaby that figure and attach the offer of the duplication place to that email. See if you can't simply pay for the pressing with the CDs. After all they talk about the profits going 100% to charity, which means after breaking even.. and they do.

also, could someone PM me with info for uploading the finnished CD ready/mastered .wav file? I'll master and all myself, I just need to know where to upload the finnished file!

I'll put an .mp3 for your listening pleasure in this thread. :)

That's a good idea, I'll look into that. Thanks!

We don't have the link yet, but it should show up in this thread soon, keep an eye out. Don't bother with mastering, as that's covered and needs to be done on an album level.

Yes, mastering is only effective if it's done for the album as a whole. Not that it won't sound good, but it just won't sound good with the rest of the songs if it wasn't matched up.

The FTP is ready, but I'm waiting for Totc to be ready. He has the info and most likely there will be PM's involved, but keep checking here for that info.

Also, CDbaby is great. They will handle the payments, which is very nice. Now, we should still have a website, no? I don't believe CD baby creates a .com site for you. Anyone know of any ideas for this? Also, the domain name. Does anyone like the name I suggested? www.katrinareliefcd.com or .org, both available.

How about having Mississippi or New Orleans in the name instead. Nobody likes Katrina after all!

Post

It's a possibility. However, the purpose of the CD is for the whole area effected by Katrina, and having a city in the name would alienate an area. Just a thought.
