Musicians for Katrina Relief

Hence the Mississippi proposal. I'd just like to bring to attention that an emphasis on the affected people and families who need help to recover will get the relief cd's true purpose across more clearly... and in a more positive way by having a catchphrase (i.e. CD title and domain name) that puts the emphasis where it belongs.

ok then. I won't master the .wav file. (but I'll premaster the .mp3 for your listening pleasurefreeztar wrote:We don't have the link yet, but it should show up in this thread soon, keep an eye out. Don't bother with mastering, as that's covered and needs to be done on an album level.snooky wrote:also, could someone PM me with info for uploading the finnished CD ready/mastered .wav file? I'll master and all myself, I just need to know where to upload the finnished file!
I'll put an .mp3 for your listening pleasure in this thread.
I'll provide a 24bit .wav file when the server is up.. a PM would be very much appriciated.
I talked a little more with the vocalist, we can have the track ready middle next week, I hope that is in time for the deadline.
btw, my real name is Eric (but call me snooky) and I want you to know that because I'm very serious about helping out! I'll skip on the "anonymity"

Strongly agreed, especially considering the favoritism being showed by the feds to Mississippi ATM..koolkeys wrote:However, the purpose of the CD is for the whole area effected by Katrina, and having a city in the name would alienate an area. Just a thought.

xRavenx, this is a project for a DISASTER. You keep trying to flower the project up, and I'm not really with that..You wanna focus on hope, get some CD's sold and what the yield will accomplish for survivors, but the project should focus artistically on all aspects of what has happened. People try to dumb down and dillute enough shit in our lives. Those who's lives have been lost deserve better.
Suggesting we change track names to happy shit and all that is really not appreciated.

I agree. I think Katrina should be in the name.
Plus, I don't agree that a picture of the storm carries the wrong message.

having thought about it a bit ... i think the storm WILL appear in the graphics but the storm wont BE the graphics (EXCEPT on the CD label itself perhaps) ...
... speaking of which ... while pressing / duplicating are being looked into we need to decide about packaging and printing too ... for RESONANCE we did tray insert / CD label / 4 page 'booklet' in a standard jewel case in four colour printing ...
... the 2 weeks will help me with the graphics too TBH (time is looking a bit thin until the weekend) ...

I agree that Katrina should be in the title. That's the official name of the storm and it's been used by all major media to instantly signify the overall disaster. The artists should be the ones to name their songs as it is they who have the best frame of reference on what their song is about. Suggestions are fine, but I agree that nothing should be dumbed down. We'll leave that to the professional artists who feel a need to be PC. Sickle has it right: we should be free artistic range to express all emotional sides to the disaster.

I just got a reply from my ISP - I will not be charged for hosting the katrinareliefcd.com domain (or whatever domain we choose to use).

Sickle, I didn't suggest changing names to 'happy shit'. But you can rest assured that people affected and their families (even if they don't live in the affected area) don't need to be reminded with a 'hey remember its bad what happened' message. People have been hearing, watching and thinking 24/7 about the losses they suffered, they don't need the wannabe-important reminder, they need a perspective that things do go on.
Looking at your sig is quite enough to get your point across though, Sickle. I understand where you're coming from, don't agree on it though, because I believe that the human psyche works in a different way.
That is not in relation to the picture of a hurricane eye, though. As it is a rather abstract picture of what happened, and reminds of it in a different and not tactless way, differently than a CD that looks like a newspaper with the picture of dead people on it would, for example.

i suspect that we will have a mixture of dark and light on the CD ... as it should be IMHO ... by all means suggest hope for the future but the reminder of why were doing this in the first place IS relevant ...
... its not necessarily about reminding people of the tragic results of katrina ... i see it more as the old Romantic concepts of the sublime and mans fundamental weakness in front of nature ...
... and DEFINITELY no pictures of dead people on the CD from me ...
(no obvious ones anyway)

I've looked around online and it's looking to be around $1200 USD for 1000 CD's with jewel/inserts. Found one site that is doing a 25% discount for Katrina efforts, but that's still a lotta cheese. I'm looking into raven's idea and will post here when I know more. I do like the idea of getting all the manufacturing done with one company, as it will be easier with transporting, etc.pHz wrote:h
