From cdbaby.com:
We only sell CDs that come directly from the musicians. No distributors. Musicians send us CDs. We warehouse them, sell them to you, and pay the musicians directly.

And I designed and art directed these two areas on the McDonalds.com site.

Unfortunately most of the other websites I do are on the McDonald's intranet so not viewable by the public. Websites compromise about 30% of what I do at work. My other time is spent creating DVD's, CDROM's.
Great! We could definitly use you and your work looks good to me. :)

I have a dev team leader in my forums who has volunteered to do programming for our project - but I don't want to have any monopoly with regards to this so maybe we should start out by having all programmers and designers who want to help out send me a PM about it? Then we can set up a team and take it from there.
That would be cool if you could head the design team.
Get in touch with Armoor and your forum guy and let us know how things progress.
Ideally, the website, flash banner, and CD design will all be cohesive, but it's going to take phz a little while so we might want to set up a simple temp site and banner for now.

Good Morning from Beijing! :) coffee.... ummmmm

Night shift is on! :D
====================================

Great work on the Cd Baby thing Freeztar! :D

Snooky(Eric) / pHz(ROb) / Everyone ===> Go for it, there's time. We need to do things right, so we need to take the time to do it right. Rough deadline is two weeks or so.

Kovacs: Katrinareliefcd.com is excellent. We will use this. :)

This is going to be a DOUBLE CD. Let's work on that principle for now.

Armoor ===> Great! Are you making a commitment to do the website? If so, please PM pHz and Kovacs. Talk to pHz to get his art theme & graphics so the website carries the theme properly and stay in close contact. The three of you should team on this as Freeztar says. Cool. :)

Mastering: Again, you can master your mp3 and link it here for listening purples, but DO NOT MASTER the track you will send to Koolkeys for inclusion on the CD!

The final track you send for submission SHOULD be:
24/32 bit wav/flac is fine, no loudness max or normalization, etc, and leave at least a -2db overhead. If this changes, we will let you all know.

We will notify all contributing musicians when & where to upload. ;)

*Let's not everyone try to do everything. The artwork/graphics and choice of such should be left to the design people. Musicians concentrate on their music. Have faith that nothing distasteful will be released -- we are ALL sensitive souls here. ;)

Stand by for more announcements. AJ

So I am guessing that kovacs did register by domain idea. I saw that was available and I knew it would probably work. So that's one less thing to do.

For CD distribution, I use mixonic.com. There is less than a week to get the CD's done and shipped to you and you can select ANY amount, with discounts coming the more you order. and the quality is VERY good. Best option around without having to spend money on $1000 CD's. Somebody can go there and take a look at prices. You can also just upload the graphics and put together your CD cover right there.

Now, it may not be the only option. I'm pretty sure you can send them tracks. They suggest uploading mp3's. But can somebody call them and ask about wav files. Or if anyone has another option, post it here. But for flexibility, mixonic.com is pretty good, and VERY fast. Oh, and you can do everything up to actually placing the order, including design, uploading, etc. without paying. But we have to check on the wave file or mp3 thing.

xander, great! I feel lucky to be part of this :)
dunno if this has been brought up before, but as we're donating our work, we don't give away any rights to the music and/or art, I mean, it may be on the final CD, but we can still put it up on the internet now or in the future, or sign the very same track to a label or anything, we still own the work we do, right?
there will be no contract signed or such hassle?

KK: The final master coming from Frank/TOTC will no doubt be in CDA format, per Cd ISO specs, which anyone can handle and we KVR folks are well capable of mastering our own (cause we wouldn't have it any other way!) ;)

If we were to choose them as our pressing company, I'm sure they'd appreciate getting a CDA final. :)

That's very well possible. Someone would have to talk to them. However, I see one problem, in that I don't know if they do double disc compilations. These are two things that would need to be checked out. It still may be cheaper elsewhere. We'll all have to keep our eyes open for the best oportunity.

Hey! In this kind of endeavor, you of course keep all your song rights for future use as you see fit. The ONLY THING you give up are the royalites from the charity CD we are making -- these go to the charity.

IF you are SIGNED to a LABEL, then you may have some problems. You'd need to get a release from them before you can give us a song. When I was signed to Mercury/Polygram, they literally owned everything I wrote for three years. If I took an artistically renderd dump, they'd be owning that as well. :hihi:

Other than that, it's simple and actually beneficial: Your copyright is automatically enplaced as soon as you put an original song with a title on a publicly-released medium. You own it forever (unless under a contract that stipulates otherwise or in fifty years it automatically goes to the public domain if you don't contest it). Capice? :)

Roger that mate! Anyway you can find out? I'm only thinking that they wouldn't have a problem with it, but we don't know unless we ask I guess.

Cheers for that,
