I don't believe they do 2-CD options. Maybe some of us here can start emailing companies about the purpose and seeing about any special pricing. Hey, it couldn't hurt. How did they do it on the tsunami CD?

From mixonic.com:
CD Thin Color Package
- Full color printing on white CD-Rs
- 2 panel color insert (4/4)
- Thin jewel case with black tray

Quantity Price
100-400 $2.38
500-900 $2.08
1000+ $1.88

We're still looking at $1000 for a color production. I saw nothing about a pay-as-you-go type approach or any kind of fronting. I also didn't see anything mentioned about distro.
Still an option though as they are based out of California, so shipping to Oregon would be cake.

ben did all the legwork on the tsunami cd,as far as i remember it took some face to face begging and chatting with the guy about what we were doing.
one thing i would be careful of is pressings, the idea is to make money for the charitys remember not end up with cds left and you didnt even hit what you spent :(
not saying that is what will happen.luckily we broke even early and made a fair bit for the charity too,but were left with a fair few cds too,ie we could have spent a little less and broke even earlier and ended up with more profit going to the charity :)
again not trying to dissuade anyone from thinking big, just make sure you think about it is all.and i know people aint stupid but i also know how easy it is to get caught up in it. ;)

The response I have gotten has been pretty good, with most companies willing to do special pricing for charity work. I'll contact mixonic and see what they can or cannot do for our needs.
Meanwhile, if someone knows of other viable options, please post them here and I, or someone else, will look into it.

As far as the tsunami effort, that was a single disc deal. They printed 1000 cd's and only sold about 600 IIRC, although, they're still selling them through a distributor who has eaten the cost of the remaining 400 discs. Glooper :hail:, payed for it all out of pocket! If someone here is willing to do that, then our problems are solved. Otherwise we need a different plan.

Alex,

I just got back in town and I'm trying to blitz through these 20 pages of posts. Is the track list frozen?

If not, I have a song that will be simple singer/songwriter dude and a guitar kind of thing that I've got about 85% baked. Similar in sound to 'Loser' of my June KVR contest entry. I would love to help out with this - since I'm not a doctor or rescue worker or anything of the like. But I can sing and pluck the strings.

I thought I read back 10 or so pages that there could be a couple extra weeks for tracks.

Please let me know by return thread post or PM.

Good point. I think 500 cd's/double cd's sounds reasonable. It's all about the marketing.
Working on that now too.

Maybe a pre-order would be a good thing to do? Name a ship date and preorder them. Then send the rest to CDBaby after the preorders are fulfilled. Maybe CDBaby would do a preorder? Who knows. I wouldn't want to ask too much, but maybe they will understand. The pre-order would eliminate alot of the out-of-pocket expense.

With Mixonic, you can't pay as you go, but you can order ANY number of CD's you want. Make sure to ask about double CD's. It still may end up cheaper somewhere else. For instance, Oasis short run CD's would be cheaper if we were ordering over 500 I believe. But one would just have to compare prices. But I think we're on the right foot here and getting alot accomplished in a short time.

Ya know, it's kind of sad. I am in the MIDDLE of music row here in Nashville every single day, around the largest of large music companies, and something tells me that none of the duplicators around here would do it for cheap enough. But maybe I'll look around for a smaller operation. I'll keep you updated. Maybe I'll take a stroll down the street this week sometime.

Didn't take it that way mate. I'm all open for suggestions and feedback is very critical at this stage. Thanks for the insight and any other info you might could give us would be equally appreciated (that goes for everyone).

Nice track btw vurt. :)

Oh, and the advantage of using someone here in Nashville would be saving on shipping to us. Then we only pay for shipping to CDbaby.
