koolkeys wrote:Oh, and the advantage of using someone here in Nashville would be saving on shipping to us. Then we only pay for shipping to CDbaby.

Koolkeys
That would be wonderous KK! :)

Keep us posted on your efforts?

Cheers & Thanks,

koolkeys wrote:Ya know, it's kind of sad. I am in the MIDDLE of music row here in Nashville every single day, around the largest of large music companies, and something tells me that none of the duplicators around here would do it for cheap enough. But maybe I'll look around for a smaller operation. I'll keep you updated. Maybe I'll take a stroll down the street this week sometime.

Koolkeys
That would be great Koolkeys, surely some people in Nashville are sympathetic, given the proximity.

I like the idea of a preorder, but I think it's a little too early to implement that. We need to have a plan setup so that money is not washed away. (excuse the non-intentional pun) :(

Funding ideas so far include:
1. "Limited Edition" run of about 100 cd's to generate funding to do a mass production (500 more).
2. Fund-raising/preordering - Good possibility, but not optimal.
3. A Philanthropist happens along. Not too obscure once you think about all the people that are donating thousands of dollars. We could take $1000 and potentially turn it into many thousands for donation. It's like investment donation. ;)

dunno if this has been brought up before, but as we're donating our work, we don't give away any rights to the music and/or art, I mean, it may be on the final CD, but we can still put it up on the internet now or in the future, or sign the very same track to a label or anything, we still own the work we do, right?
there will be no contract signed or such hassle?
Hey! In this kind of endeavor, you of course keep all your song rights for future use as you see fit. The ONLY THING you give up are the royalites from the charity CD we are making -- these go to the charity.

IF you are SIGNED to a LABEL, then you may have some problems. You'd need to get a release from them before you can give us a song. When I was signed to Mercury/Polygram, they literally owned everything I wrote for three years. If I took an artistically renderd dump, they'd be owning that as well. :hihi:

Other than that, it's simple and actually beneficial: Your copyright is automatically enplaced as soon as you put an original song with a title on a publicly-released medium. You own it forever (unless under a contract that stipulates otherwise or in fifty years it automatically goes to the public domain if you don't contest it). Capice? :)
ok, then all is well, not currently signed to any labels...

idea number 1 sounds pretty cool :)

I agree. A fellow kvrian actually suggested it and he is willing to do the duping for cost. No printing though, and shipping from UK to USA is costly, so that might not work. But the idea itself is still very viable.

I also concur -- a viable alternative we should pursue.

Anyone know the cost to ship a single cd to the states from England? Perhaps we can find free distribution in the UK??
Might not be the best option, but we need numbers in order to do an approximate cost/benefit analysis to find all the best options.

I will do what I can here in Nashville, but no promises, as I've not built any relationships up in this area yet. I'll ask around also.

Oh, and I'll PM you my lyrics as soon as I decide it's finished(day or so). I decided to add something to it. I'll post it here when finished.

As for funding. Can't we take preorders?

1) What is the price per CD, and 2) What is the price for shipping to Europe?

If some US citizen could set up a paypal account that would make these things easier (since most people will probably be Americans and there will be less fees).

I could ask for pre-orders at my forums, for example, - I already have one person who wants 2, I'm sure there are plenty of others and most of them will be willing to pay up front.

If we estimate a price per unit of about $20 then we need 50 preorders to get $1000.

Put me down for 10 personally...this is a great Christmas gift this year.

Wouldn't this be a better way to raise money than to wait for some rich guy to come walking buy?
