1) What is the price per CD, and 2) What is the price for shipping to Europe?

If some US citizen could set up a paypal account that would make these things easier (since most people will probably be Americans and there will be less fees).

I could ask for pre-orders at my forums, for example, - I already have one person who wants 2, I'm sure there are plenty of others and most of them will be willing to pay up front.

If we estimate a price per unit of about $20 then we need 50 preorders to get $1000.

Put me down for 10 personally...this is a great Christmas gift this year.

Wouldn't this be a better way to raise money than to wait for some rich guy to come walking buy?
WOw! Kovacs mate -- That's way cool.

We need to sell 50 and you've already accounted for 12 of them!?!

Let's keep this ball rolling. :) 8)

Can you keep us informed as to how your sales go? :)

:hail:
10 is a fifth of the way there!
A website would help with this endeavor.

Some rich guy wouldn't hurt though. :hihi:
Or a bunch of poor guys.

I do like the pre-order idea, as well as the short first run to get things started and funded. But we have to make sure several things are in place still. Such as designs, website, payment method for pre-orders(don't think CDBaby would do this), and we need somebody to commit to keeping track of the orders and addresses and shipping the pre-orders out. This will cost shipping, which is yet another cost. And we HAVE to document all this.

I just give ideas as I have them. I feel these things are important, and will help this run a whole lot smoother.

Oh, and besides the cost of the CD's, I know CDBaby keeps like 4 bucks of every sale. Say we spend $3 per CD, then they take that. It will very likely shorten the profit for charity. I don't think we should abandon CDBaby, just wanted to put it into your minds.

Does anyone have any quotes for duplication for double CD's? Again, I'll look here in Nashville, but if anyone has any other ideas, please come forward.

As for preorders, we could use www.katrinareliefcd.com - if someone can write some copy about the project, we can put a quick pre-order page up and use PayPal for preorders.

I could technically do that via my PayPal but since I am registered as a "Non-US Business Member" at PayPal I have to pay fees for every transaction. It would be easier if we either registered sales@katrinareliefcd.com as a personal PayPal member and charge for preorders. Say if we ask for $20 for North American residents, $23 for Europeans, $25 for all others then that should cover shipping and then some.

Then all preorders would be stored with shipping info, money would be available, and if we end up with a minus somewhere then we will have to find a way to solve it. But at least it gives us some way to start collecting the cash.

Oh, and we must make it *crystal clear* to folks that this is a *preorder* (it may take a while before they get their CD) and that all proceeds will go to charity.

BTW...which fund will the money go to? We should make that clear as well.

Does anyone mind if I follow up with the Musicians Union Local 174-496 in New Orleans?

I thought that they might have some ideas.

Here is their website:

http://www.neworleansmusicians.org/news.php

I am not sure what programs they have going, but there are some guys missing -- union wages are very small & these guys may need a break.

Also, I've had some suggestions for The Salvation Army. Seems like they were first into the danger but did't get the press.

I would like to contribute a song.
Is there a deadline? I can have it ready by Monday morning.
I am sorry if this has already been discussed, I haven't read through all 22 pages of this thread yet.
I would really like to be a part of this please.

I have been looking around, and am not finding packaged, finished, replicated cd.s for less than $1100 for 1000, or a much more prohibitive rate for shorter runs.

But this companyoffers properly replicated c.d.s (i.e. not c.d.-rs) in bulk for cheap. Perhaps we could find a creative packaging alternative?

BTW, Does c.d. baby require a barcode?

They cost money so we had better be sure on this, as some replication services offer free ones.

herodotus, that was the DVD page - here is the CD page

Still over $1000 though.

If we can manage 100 preorders we should be good to go. Hell, there are so many group buys around...this can't be impossible here at KVR?
