hello folks, I have just purchased my music system...

-= Programs =-
Cubase SL 3
Reason 3
Wavelab Lite 2.5 (came with a magazine !! w00t :))

-= Effects =-
Reverb: Voxengo Pristine Space
Mastering: Voxengo CurveEQ & Elephant2, I don't tend to use a master compressor at the moment
EQ: Voxengo Voxformer EQ
Compression: Voxengo Voxformer, Voxengo Crunchessor
Saturation: Voxengo Voxformer
Modulation / Phaser: Kjaerhus Classic Series

ok so my problem is that I can't dig the sound of Crunchessor, I like the Waves RComp a lot (especially the really quick attack times, smoothness and limiter on output section) to be honest and Sonalksis too. I can't really justify buying Sonalksis, but I am also considering buying http://www.waves.com/content.asp?id=1472. My problem is that I have heard so many bad things about iLok / Interlok or whatever its called, will Waves be stable ? How does protection work with Waves, dongle ? That set of plugins is really good value, 200 $ for 5 awesome effects and I could use each and every one of them.

If not Waves for compression, can you suggest any other similar compressors to the RComp (excluding Sonalksis due to price) ?

I can't help feeling like I've wasted my cash on Crunchessor since I just can't imagine ever getting comfortable with it even though everyone around here loves it. I just can't get an in your face sound with drums on it, while I can get that sound almost instantly with the RComp, I think the limiter may be the thing that REALLY helps RComp. Similar problem with RVox VS Voxformer, I get a lot of spikes with quick transients with Voxformer, but never any outstanding transients with RVox.

Thanks for your help u guys
Cheers

Honestly, I want to go with waves, that's why I was mainly asking about the protection technology. I would only look at alternatives if the iLok system used by Waves is unstable. Doesn't anyone here use an iLok ? I thought most products worked with those things nowadays. I just need to know how stable they are, are the newest interlok drivers ok ?

Several years ago, there was talk about how unstable interlok was and that even people who were purchasing the plugins used a pirated copy because the pirated version didn't contain Waves protection which made it much more stable.

Thoughts?

No idea about how well the iLok is working these days. All I know is that Waves went through dongle, no dongle and back to dongle schemes, all of which didn't seem to help them at all, still they keep on trying to put things in your way of just being a happy customer. For me that's enought to qualify as a no-no.

yep that's the exact impression I got too Sascha. Thanks a lot for the advise. I think I'll stick with Kjaerhus, Voxengo and Buzzcomp.

P.S.: I LOVE YOUR QUOTE !!! lol that's awesome !
