Now this is EXACTLY what I mean with Sonar being cluttered. Sascha, I 100% agree with you here.

Now do remember that any screenshot is inevitably going to try to show all the new features off in one place - the reality of it is that you're not going to have it configured like that. For instance, you've always been able to re-order the track fields and widgets to the order you like them in and by selecting the width of the left-hand pane appropriately, you only see the important ones (for you) 90%+ of the time, which makes a huge difference to usability and comfort.

If that's the default colour scheme, it looks very much like what I'd picked for SONAR 4, so I think they have good taste :-)

Btw, is the mixer user configurable? So I can move tracks around to my likings?
And also, are editors and mixers linkable and available as float windows?

They weren't in S4 (actually, you can hide different tracks in the track view and mixer views), but I can't see why you'd want differently ordered tracks in the track view and mixer unless you like confusing yourself. Linking? You mean selecting a track in track view and the same track is seleceted in the mixer? Except for scrolling it into view if you have oodles of track, it's a non-feature.

All windows are fully floatable outside the main window (except the track view, which *is* the main window).

I do it all the time and no, I'm not confusing myself, and again no, I don't want to explain it for the umpteenth time right now. Just believe me, it's a must for any multitimbral, multiout thing.
And I like my bussed to be placed anywhere in the mixer.
That should be enough of a reason, even if there's tons more.

Yes.
Except for scrolling it into view if you have oodles of track, it's a non-feature.
So, can I have a mixer floating and make it really small, then activate "link" (or however it might be done) and it'll follow my arrange selection?
And, further, will that work with VSTi tracks as well?
All windows are fully floatable outside the main window (except the track view, which *is* the main window).
Good. Can they be linked as well? The piano roll for instance? And, will those float windows be focussed, so a note selected in my floating piano roll can be deleted via pressing del/backspace?

Maybe I should switch (I'm a Cubase user since 1995)?

go figure! I just finally broke down and bought DirectXizer last night.
so why the hell couldn't they implement native vst support when they updated P5? :x

hehehehehe
If you guys like an unclutterd sequencer maybe you'd be better off using Tunafish.

What can I say? I like Sonar's GUI a lot, I don't find it either ugly, bloated or confusing. In fact, the Sonar / Cakewalk Pro Audio GUI has always been what allured me the most if you compare it to the other sequencers.

We have a bit different tastes, eh? :)

Sonar adds just the first default channel, you'll have to add more yourself should you need them. I'm glad Logic behaves the way you want it.

hehehe Just because you can't see it doesn't mean someone else doesn't want it.

Not entirely true.

SONARs Synth Rack gives you the option of adding just the 1st or "main" outputs or all outputs......

Now all they need is a talented gfx artist, and they are onto something.
Black text on a white canvas, do racist people close their eyes when they read a book?
