not yet - however I've been away on a spontaneous holiday for the last eight days so I'd didn't come around to do any extensive testingik_ik_ik wrote: @Jens, any problems your end since with the new driver?
Why can't EXT handle ANY audio without crackling?

Quick test, but seems better :
I tried all I could to tweak my soundcard, my system, ASIO, etc. : still crackles, pops and glitches while playing audio.
So, as I said before, I changed my Matrox G450 (which is a dual-head, PCI graphic card) for an old ATI Rage 128 Pro, AGP card, and went back to Energy 1.3.5.
Actual result : perfect playback of my test wave... seems to work finally very well. Now I'm going to perform more extensive tests including multitrack audio recording, VSTi's, effects, etc...
IF it's positive (and I hope so), it proves that, in my case, it was a GUI problem with a graphic card on PCI port. And I hope it can help for others... So RME stuff seems out of suspiscion.

I tried the new drivers with a Audigy.
2.9 ms possible but 8ms are enough for me.
Strange is if you activate any SMP timing on the kx the CPU goes to 50% even you do absolutly nothing but could be a foult of the KX drivers.
Gui is a little slower but still ok. Better than having a fast gui but crackles.
Just FYI.
Greetings
Thomas

Hi Stanlea,
did you performed already some more testing.
Was it the GCard ?
I think this driver-gui-thread timing is not easy to handel. And with SMP support i think it will get even more tricky.

All this messing around with hardware and tweaking systems just seems to me like digging up possible ways to lessen the symptoms by avoiding whatever it is in eXT that just isn't quite right. It's basically the only application I have audio/gui performance issues with (on more than one physical setup). Am I right in thinking that this goes for most other people - and most notably with otherwise problem free systems with perfectly reasonable specifications for audio work?
There's a lot of anecdotal stuff that's burying the basic fact that there's always been something not quite right isn't there? It shouldn't need so much testing and messing around to get eXT to behave better - heaven knows I've done and posted enough here myself over the past year.

I totally agree with you. However, I did what I could to solve my problem, for I really like eXT : there's no other program with so much possibilities and features, even for 1000$. Now it works nicely. Still testing, but no more problems until now.

Can't agree with you more about that stanleastanlea wrote:there's no other program with so much possibilities and features, even for 1000$
I just can't satisfy myself that I can rely on it live yet which is real pity as I would dearly like to. Peace of mind is critical in that scenario - it's not just the audio/GUI performance but other things like the way the CPU can totally max out and lock the system and that crashes tend to take out the audio drivers irretrievably and require a reboot, etc.
Cool that it's so far so good with your setup now though

I don't know... but I'll test it. I cannot perform all tests quickly, because I'm very busy with my work and my five kids...does that mean the 1.4 beta still has problems after the hardware changes?
