ANSWERS
A.) Yes there is still time to submit songs.
B.) No, there is no set time limit for a song unless it is crazy like over ten minutes or something. Think 'reality' on this.
C.) Yes the discussion about charities should move to HPC.
D.) Yes I mentioned the New Orleans Musicians Local as a potential donation target and posted the link for all to read earlier. Just as in KVR, members of ALL religions or non-religions are union members. Please remember that if you support donating funds to the Musician's Union, you may be inadvertantly supporting a Christian, a Jew, a Muslim or a Rastafarian. If you don't like this possible outcome then please remove your song from consideration.
E.) Yes we will all vote on the charities we deem acceptable and will abide by the vote. If not happy witrh this read item 'C' above.
F.) Yes there will be a vote by the Katrina Relief CD Organizing Team as to which tracks are included and which are not.
G.) Yes we are REALLY on target and things are going VERY WELL to actually do something wonderful with our music. Let's all pull together in similar fashion to those that are suffering.
Cheers,
Alex

I for one don't care about who the money goes to.
I suggest that anyone who feels this strongly against this or that organization should volunteer to take the money; buy food, water and basic medical supplies; rent a helicopter; and do the drop themselves.
That way the ideology/religious background/hiring practices of the person doing the work can be definitively known in advance.
Of course, when you get back we will be subjecting you to a ruthless public press conference to decide after the fact whether or not all of your actions were justified.
That is all I will say on this matter. I will not go into HPC, so this is my last word on this.
Morning all.
And
to you too, Alex.

Hi, a not so little bird just texted me to say that the Musicians for Asia organisers have got together and agreed to provide a free Resonance CD for everyone preordering the Katrina CD, while stocks last!
Music with dinner is an insult both to the cook and the violinist.

Alex. My vote is that you pick the charity. With the power vested in me, I appoint you King of Charity Picking for the CD.
We all live by it. Plenty of tracks for those who want to pull out if it's offensive to them.
Voting takes too long. It's starting to sound like government. Autocracy has it's benefits sometimes.

What I think I'll do, so that all egos are assuaged, is I'll find out personally from the New Orleans Musicians Local union hall what they're suggestions/needs are.
As I've read, many members are distraught over missing friends/other musicians and these type of folks are close to our hearts (well mine anyway).
If anyone has ever known or met musicians working in New Orleans clubs, you'll know there are thousands of them. A union card (easy to get) is at least a guarantee that you'll get scale (about 40 dollars a gig). Some of the best street buskers I ever heard lived on this kind of income and could naturally blow most schooled players out of the water, yet they lived all ganged up in tenament slums and in the back of abandoned cars -- simply trying to survive playing music. Lots of these guys were, of course, black and middle-aged -- 50's and 60's.
When Mardis Gras rolled around, canvas would be stretched over alleyways, converting them into makeshift clubs, where musicians could make enough to last for several months & you could get a plate of red beans and rice for 26cents if things got rough. Some dimly lit street corners in th Quarter have been the scene of some of the most incredible music ever laid down live. Of course, ya had to be there, yeah?
I was a member of Local 444 for many years and union gigs kept me alive for a while, along with unloading sweet potatos off the docks on Canal St. for three dollars a day, so as I have said previously, I've a soft spot for 'em all.
I think of Jackson Square now, and I wonder if it's still there. Incredible.
