Anthony and the Johnsons. 'Nuff said.

The Brainwashed podcast opened with I Hope There's Someone. So beautiful it made me want to cry.

His voice makes me feel physically sick (I kid you not). Horrible, horrible, horrible.

Very pleased someone unconventional won the Mercury rather than the judges pandering to popularism, but for this to win anything makes a mockery of listenable music.

First time I heard them I thought that they (still not convinced otherwise) were a Tiny Tim tribute band........F#cking awful.
RIP Black Tom and Beckett. They weren't just cats, they were MY cats, the best cats ever.

Hey, no dissing Tiny Tim! :x The man was a walking encyclopedia of 20th century pop music history, and a true original. Shame he'll only be remembered for that one novelty hit.

I don't really care for Antony though... a little too much soul diva in the vox for my taste. Hopefully his contributions to the forthcoming Current 93 record will be kept tasteful.

He's still crap :hihi:

Feel much the same way, tho' for some bizarre reason, I like Aaron (I think?) Nevilles voice, which is not a million miles away from Anthony's. I'm a contrary f#cker aren't I? :hihi:

What is "the Mercury"? I'm hoping it is a competition where the winner must ingest large quantities of mercury.

I could never stand Aaron Neville, as he sounds too much like a radio station that can't quite come in...or somebody randomly pressing mute...

I always thought he sounds like Celine Dion through an octaver.

I personally think it's about time a 6 foot 6 tall torch-singing tranny won the Mercury. I was initially won over by the cathartic last minute of Hope There's Someone. I have both albums and rarely listen to them, but there are times when little else will do. On another note, I suspect that most of the people disliking Mr Hegarty are, quite simply, not bent. I find it hard to fathom how anybody who isn't can get inside his music.
