Thanks for you thoughts bmanic (and everyones!) I love repeat answers personally and each and everyones' views pro& con...Hmmm Sonalksis again...I might have to do something about that...bmanic wrote:...Sonalksis Compressor Voxengo Crunchessor and Voxengo Polysquasher fills that compressor gap rather nicely. They all offer many different flavours. And now with the PSP Master Compressor you have yet another high quality, albeit cpu hungry, compressor.
As for the reverb, ever tried ArtsAccoustic Reverb? Just got my copy a few weeks back, it's awesome.
EDIT: looks like everybody answered at once so sorry for the repeating!
Cheers!

Who made that one, Can`t remember hearing about it.
Umm.. he probably ment plate 140 from UA for the UAD and yes, it is awesome and has no competition on the native side yet (AA reverb can not really emulate it but can get a similar 'vibe' if you tweak it a bit).

IMHO the AA reverb IS better sounding than that basic reverb that comes bundled (damn can't remeber the name!) but the plate 140 is a completely different story as it's again a model of excisting hardware that has been proven to be good and what UA does very well is to model things! Also, I think that both the basic reverb and dreamverb are developed by that Kind Of Loud company which used to sell plugins for pro tools so they are not really UA inhouse coded.drinelli wrote:, I haven`t used the reverbs in the Uad1 studio pack that much because I thought of Artsacoustic Reverb as better sounding.

Yes - that's my problem! Why are they the only one (or one of a very few in my PC world) that can do that and have people state that without missing a beat? I continually hear this...bmanic wrote:I'd say a pretty fair bet is that the UAD compressors simply sound awesome. Ever tried a real 1176 or LA-2a (reissue or new, doesn't matter)? They do sound awesome on nearly any audio material so when a model gets as close to the hardware as UA did with their plugins, it's bound to be good!

hehe.. that sonalksis compressor is still my 'go to' compressor for most tasks. One just has to ignore the gain reduction meter as it sometimes can get really scary to look at that -12 to -16dB gain reduction!kylen wrote: Thanks for you thoughts bmanic (and everyones!) If you want I can make some audio files of the compression action in case your demo has expired?
Cheers!

Ok so this is why I could not remember it, it is not among the bundled plugins, but I recall it as being among the demoes at least I do now, I probably did not activate the demo and did not came across since.

Oh yes - that would be cool of you if you have some lying around! The gain reduction doesn't bother me - I can just put a post-it note on my screen...bmanic wrote:...that sonalksis compressor is still my 'go to' compressor for most tasks. Well, you just have to get your hands on the real hardware. It's not just hype or superstition why people keep stacking up on LA-2A's and 1176's (or 1178's = stereo version of 1176). However, I also can't understand why UA are the only ones that can pull of such a good model of them! I'm sure that if somebody sent Alexey a 1176 or LA-2A he could figure it out.. maybe.kylen wrote: Yes - that's my problem! Could be that the unique combination of having skilled electric engineers that build real hardware copies of the old units and DSP coders in the same company is the missing link.

Yes - this was the point of my thread - trying to get to the bottom of this. Co-existence of software developers and hardware designers and engineers could be real important! Good point!bmanic wrote:Well, you just have to get your hands on the real hardware.
