Science is based on reason. Belief in a supernatural god is a rejection of reason..

It has everything to do with it. You saying I'm a bigot?
bigot

n : a prejudiced person who is intolerant of any opinions differing from his own
In my opinion, anyone who believes in god is choosing not to think, and does not deserve to benefit from any of the advances made by science over the last few hundred years.. You can disagree, but if you object to me expressing my view then you are the bigot not I.
But you object to the Salvation Army expressing their view. What's the difference?

You say people who believe in God don't DESERVE technology. How is that any different than what you are accusing SA of? You are discriminitory against people who believe in God.

Bigot has become an overused and meaningless word at this point. Hypocryte is closer to what I had in mind.

Anyone can express their view, no matter how risible it may be.. the difference is, the SA spends lots of money attempting to impose their views on others. I will not contribute my money to such an organisation.

If nothing else, you've certainly proven that point this morning.

How?

Where do I advocate discrimination against anyone? All I did was state my genuine belief that the need for a magical father figure is a pathological condition.. I don't even assign any value judgements to that. :P your assumption that I do implies that you are prejudiced against the mentally ill.

You say that people who believe in God don't deserve to benefit from science.

What If I said athiest hurricane victims shouldn't get any help from the Christian charities because they don't believe in God? Or homosexuals shouldn't benefit from science because their practice doesn't serve to reproduce the species and thus has nothing to do with science?

Would those statements be acceptable to you if they were my genuine beliefs (they are not) They don't make any value judgments, correct? Therefore they are not discriminitory, correct?

You may want to re-evaluate your narrow way of thinking.

I said don't deserve, not shouldn't recieve. ;)

How the hell is that even close to what I say? I think you are revealing your own prejudice there..

It's almost exactly what you say just directed at a different type of group. OK switch it to "don't deserve" then. It's exactly the same thing.

I didn't say I think that, in fact I said I DON'T. But how would it be prejudicial by your standards anyway? No more prejudicial than your signature or what you said above.

I just wish we could stick to "I vote we contribute to [insert charity]" or "I would suggest we contribute to [insert charity]" rather than arguing about the merits and sins of particular charities. Sickle kindly started a HPC thread for everyone to rant about their ideas/beliefs/proofs/disproofs on charitable organizations. Making the same arguements here does nothing but create a lot of bitter emotions all around.

Fact remains, we have to make a descision VERY soon. Devisive arguments only hinder the needed result.

Um HELLO, PEOPLE..?

Can we please GET OUR SHIT TOGETHER HERE?

I REALLY don't give a f**k about any charity's belief system as long as:

A - The money arrives where it's supposed to.

B - ALL victims are supported equally.

How f**king hard is that? This isn't a thread for theological debate..

NO SHIT!!!

Thanks for saying it, Sickle.

Bullshit. The equivalent would be to say that I, as a non-believer, do not deserve to go to heaven. (I will take that risk :hihi:)

Sexual orientation has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with science or logic, and the fact that you think it does reveals the classic woolly thinking that makes religious exploitation possible in the first place.

You should be ashamed of yourself.
