I think a simple solution is to simply not draw vertical lines that are closer to the previous than 5px or so.
Similar to the way the timeline text labels are drawn.

When you zoom out, the "tick marks" on the time line get really crowded - and eventually solid. Not very useful other than telling you you're way out.
I think a simple solution is to simply not draw vertical lines that are closer to the previous than 5px or so.

Yep, this has been requested a few times.
I would like the vertical lines to go from every bar, to every 2 bars, 4, 8, 16, 32 at the appropriate times as you zoom out.
NB - this would be in the timeline as well as the main Arrange view

Yeah, agreed, and that's absolutely the nice and fancy versionI would like the vertical lines to go from every bar, to every 2 bars, 4, 8, 16, 32 at the appropriate times as you zoom out.
I was just suggesting the quick-and-dirty pixel-based way, in the draw-method storing the previously used x-coordinate and doing a simple comparison.
The way you describe it is of course much more elegant though. *yum*
