Catching up with everything going on at kvr is totally ruining my productivity.

It seems the files were too big, and were automatically reduced. I'll need to find a way to save the larger .jpg in a smaller file.
No need to kill time on this on my account. I appreciate the effort,

Thanks!

Actually it is in the SDK since vst 2.0.
It's documented in a horrible way (not only event handling, but the whole sdk), but it's there.
As to why steinberg made another api for midi only plugins, and why many host developers don't make use of those vst spec "features" - well, it beats me too :P

thunderkyss, and those are supposed to prove the clutterfree interface?
http://home.arcor.de/s.franck/temp/LogicArrange.jpg is what I'd call clutterfree.
Along with this on my second monitor:

Which goodies am I getting from the crowded Sonar UI that I'm missing in Logic?
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Maybe I'm stupid, but I don't really get the point about Sonar GUI and cluttered. You can switch off or hide virtually everything. So with this together with templates, layouts, color schemes and so on I can't imagine there being a person who couldn't set up Sonar to their liking or at least good enough from a GUI point of view. I mean you can't judge it from start up mode or from other user's screens if you're THAT concerned about it.

The thing is Sonar looks plastic and it feels plastic.

Comparing the screenshots Logic Vs Sonar the alphabet
still rules the pecking order. I would much rather have
less and see what I do... than the 'try to fit it all
into a too small a space' outlook.
Black text on a white canvas, do racist people close their eyes when they read a book?

sonar's got the balls but not the looks.

k

Might go for Sonar6 SE anyway when time comes.

Did you even read what beltrom said? You can turn off/hide most of the stuff in the Sonar interface...the screens posted by thunderkyss show his preferred way of using Sonar (frankly, I don't like his colours, but that is my taste). You could pretty much strip back the Sonar GUI so that it was no more cluttered than those Logic screenshots.

Why do so many people express their opinions as facts? I don't like Logic's colour scheme...I don't like the look of Logic's midi/audio parts and I don't much care for it's mixer's looks either...but that is just me. If other people like it, then great...I'm not going to start posting that it's crap/toylike/cluttered/blahblahblah. Each to their own.

xylyx your not only missing the whole point (it hit you
in the back of ya head too), you cannot add something
which is not there.

It has nothing to do with 'like don't like', so don't
act like a baby with that primetime baby-line.

Numerous users have said why/what they don't like
about Sonar, and for a reason. Customization is great,
too bad the gui start sucking the second you add one (1) thing.

Come to think of it the 'look' reminds me of some sort of suburban WordPad gone Tokyo.

 huh?

Anyone here actually doing any work with their sequencer, as opposed to looking at the ones you don't even use to begin with, going :tantrum: and theorizing in rather useless ways?
It appears as if a lot of people complaining about clutter haven't even gotten as far with sonar as to create their own project templates

Brandon, does S5 PE still slow down badly gui- and transport control-wise with around 200 midi tracks as S4 does?

yes it does, and you're the baby, not xylyx.

Yeah; it doesnt suit their taste.

No, it doesnt.

Wow. Is that gibberish supposed to come across as informed?

Don't bother xRAVENx (or Whyterabbyt). If people want to deprive themself from the use of a great tool because of something that's strangely enough both nonexistant and down to taste because of their ignorance it's their problem, not yours.

I really don't get why stuff like this is so emotional. It is a f*n tool, everyone knows that right? I've been using Cakewalk since DOS version 2 so I'm as loyal a Cakewalker as anyone. But if people don't like Sonar and is hostile or arrogant about it I just view it as childish (and unprofessional) and move on. Like I said - it's their problem - and I don't want to solve it for them.

Post

HI

One thing CakeWalk might want to check is their server - I tried to download the Sonar demo for a (3rd) look but just got nowhere other than: 'can't find server' - this happened several times over several days!

So I tried the H20 version - same problem 3rd time around ...

No sound, how do you get a vst loaded, midi keyboard not working, soundcard seems OK - but no sound, how do you load a DX synth, OH - keyboard seems to be OK - why isn't the M-Audio card outputting sound?

Three times I have tried Sonar and not got a sound out of the bugger - not got a vst/dxi loaded .....

I have tried 'difficult' host's like Podium, XT, Samplitude, Logic, SX, Live - (not to mention ALL the trackers, Orion, Project 5, Reason, FL ect)but this just convinces me that it is not for me - any host that I can't get a sound out of on 3 tries means it is only going to get worse - I have got going in all the other mentioned host's in minutes!

Perhaps it's me?

Anyway - I uninstalled and deleted it last night.

It doesn't exist in any shape or form on my PC (just in case someone starts screaming 'Warez User').

This is of course only MY experience - others are obviously having no such issues!

Flipper.
