If it were only UA analog hardware I would guess most definitely yes...I was thinking that dsp implementation would have leveled the playing field a lot. According to some nice observations in this thread UA plugin developers may have advantages other developers don't have.knot0fvipers wrote:isnt this basically like asking why can someone who has been playing the violin for 25 years sound better than someone who has been playing for 5 years?
This is an issue with all systems that use the AMD 8131 chipset, including some Apple computers.
Logic didn't gain PDC until ver. 7, AFAIK.Skaven83 wrote:off topic:
About the UAD plugins, I run logic audio (silver) 5.5.1 and whenever I place an effect on a tracks insert, it is delayed. UAD tell me that all versions of logic audio have PDC on inserts, but this is not true? UAD effects on busses are delayed too, but this I am aware of.
Which plug-ins have you been using? Avoid the EX-1 & Realverb, they're not worth using over native plug-ins so it's better to save the DSP for the LA2A, Pultec, Fairchild, et al.nibbzious wrote:I don't think that the UAD plugins are the best I've ever heard. I wasn't really super impressed. But they still are great plugins and they offload pressure from my CPU, so I'm quite happy
TC's already on their next generation cards. Personally, I've been using the same Pulsar card since 1998.Although I wonder how long it'll be until TC/UAD releases a new wave of cards rendering ours completely useless... especially since I jumped on the DSP-card train very late.
Logic had PDC on audio tracks and virtual instrument tracks well before v7.Uncle E wrote:Logic didn't gain PDC until ver. 7, AFAIK.Skaven83 wrote:off topic:

What you have to remember is most of the UAD-1 pugins are modeled on vintage gear some over 30 years old the fairchil 670 compressor is from the 1950's , so theres no reason why you won't want to use the same plugins in 10 years time ?Aleksey Vaneev wrote:Just wanted to say one thing - there will be time when UAD will have to offer something really exceptional to compete with native plug-ins. With multi-core compressors appearing (and we'll eventually see 4 or 8 core processors) it's hard to see how can UAD DSP boards survive in the long run. Only if they offer something exceptional (but here we have a problem of understanding of what exceptional really is).
