the mixed orchestra section is great, lots of variety and can produce very cinematic sounds, as can Philharmonik in general, but i would say my only gripe is that it does lack that extra kick that EWQLSO has. Although i'm still finding new things out all the time I feel it's almost lacking that final FFF dynamic, where you want to drive the message home and just have that raspy quality. Likewise, EWQL doesn't touch the emotional quality that Philharmonik has, plus it does cover more bases - especially when considering the pianos, choirs, organs etc.

I honestly can't say which is best, although i've had EWQLSO longer and know it quite well, i'm amazed how well Philharmonik has been able to fill the gaps, but I feel you have to work much harder in Philharmonik to produce the desired results.

here's my first mix using Philharmonik, still at a "very demo" stage (some things aren't triggering correctly between 1:30 and 2:00) but still I think it effectively puts across how great this product is, the mix also includes EWQLSO solo strings and French Horn, but the rest is all Philharmonik.

Not to be a prick. It sound very synthetic and not very realistic. This is not a reflection on your skills, just the sounds of the instruments.

Could you do one with just EWQLSO and one with just Philharmonik?

I actually think this sounds pretty good, but i would like to hear them separately as well.

I too think it sounds good, not that synthy nor unrealistic, especially if you plan to keep working on it to make it more in-depth (i heard way more synthy demos, yet made with the "biggest" orch libs).
But I would second the other comments : why don't you try an all-philharmonik piece ?

I did a really nice demo of the first movement of Ravel's Rapsodie espangol (all in Philharmonik) which I think sounds very good. I've never posted any demos online and don't really know how or what my options are in order to do this - would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks. :help:

loogoo, if you need someone to host the demo on their website, I'd be more than happy to. Just email me the file and I'll put it up and send you a link to post.

I was definitely hoping that Philharmonik would be fixed before now... and I'm still waiting on IK getting back to me to tell me WHEN it will be fixed. I'm about to just give up on IK and contact SR... it's not like I need any more incentive to be frustrated with IK as it is.

Anyway, that's my update on the issue: so far, nothing seems to be happening, and I think it's getting to be time to ditch IK and turn to SR for more reliable support (I assume SR doesn't have the same problems with IK that their customers do)

The tech support team reports bugs but they aren't the ones that fix them. They don't know when it will be fixed but they can tell you if they are aware of the bug if you've found one. Anyway, you bought it from esoundz and one of the things we do is follow up to see if any bugs our customers find are submitted and then they fix them for the next update. I don't know when that is either but its only just been released. I suspect soon and will try to find out when the next update will be though. Hang in there, Relik. Philharmonik ironically has very few bugs for a new product. I know some from other companies that have an unbelievable large amount of them too. I won't name which but some of you know. So, it can happen. I am sure there will be a fix for whatever issues there are out there soon.

I have full understanding that bugs take time to fix and it hasn't been that long - the problem is that I was assured that the problem would be fixed before I even BOUGHT Philharmonik. I'm frustrated because IK let us down and needs to make things right, and don't seem to be acknowledging that, or as far as I know, aren't even THINKING about the fact that this rather crippling bug is the SAME bug IK said was fixed (and obviously isn't).

Support says the devs are "looking into it", but that's all I've really gotten (and I don't even know whether to believe that, at this stage). And either way, if it's going to be like 3 months before an update, that's just an unacceptable amount of time... even though some products have more bugs, it's still a fact that a product should come into the marketplace without any bugs whatsoever, and the users shouldn't be forced to wait long amounts of time to get their money's worth from their products.

loogoo wrote:I've made a peculiar observation and I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this. Working in Sonar 4PE, I'll open an instance of Philhamonik and load instruments, and maybe open other VSTs to fill out my instrumentation on a project. If I leave the project open for a while (not sure how long, but say 45 minutes to an hour) or it sits idle for a while - when I access the instance of Philharmonik it won't respond to any clicking I do on the interface. I can't change instruments or tweak knobs. The loaded instruments will still play, but I can't make any changes and have to close the instance and open a new one and reload my instruments (or load a combi that I've previously saved). The other VSTs don't behave in this fashion. Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen. Might this be a (dare I say it?) dongle issue?

It doesn't, however, deter from the immense pleasure I'm deriving from just sitting and playing these wonderful sounds. The box arrived the same day as I was meeting with a client (a singer) for whom I am doing arrangements and tracks on her latest CD. I played her some of the sounds and she was thrilled to think that this was the "band" that would be accompanying her!
I have this problem in cubase with miroslov's GUI freezing and i got my answer on cubase.net.

simple really your DAW can only use about 1.4GB memory max with a 32bit window operating system, even though i have 2GB installed.
This will not be a problem when the 64bit OS come into action.

before you open miroslov press ctrl/alt/delete and see how much memory your using then open miroslov and some patches and check your memory use again.

i found i was using to much memory and thats why miroslov was freezing.

I did discover that if I freeze and unfreeze Philharmonik in the instrument rack it becomes functional again. At least that lets me make necessary changes.

oh man when the chorus comes in a big smile came to my face. this is beautiful. i'd like to hear some timps and cymbals in the mix, as well maybe some choirs?

this reminded me of being in grade 6 we used to play this song in class... i was on clarinet.
