Ok, first off, just placed my pre-order. :D you can send the copy of resonance...i'll give it to my sister, try to expand her horizons a bit.

Second on the list, i've mastered 2 more songs for the CD....

First is Diek's "Call To THe UNiverse".

Stream/Download: HERE

Second is "Flooded" by Rsmus7.

comments from all, especially the authors, are welcome.

Hi Frank,

I listened to your mastered version,
and I hear some distortion and a lack of high frequencies that are still present in the original wav file. (listen round 40sec for example)
Maybe you limited it a bit too much.
I know it has a lot bass-frequencies, but it should sound this way.
For me the original sounds a bit more brilliant and warm.
So I´m not too happy with the master.
I´d rather like to keep the original.

hehe. rsmus7 has never liked my mastering work. well, it's not limiting for sure, i barely used any...just enough to keep the volume from clipping (which it didn't do too much.). However, I did save the project files, so i can easily go in and disable some things in the processing chain. Not a problem at all dude. :D I'll get to re-doing it tonight and post it up for you to audtion...sound good?

In the meantime, here's the mastered version of Electroniqa's "Angels". I think it sounds great...decide for yourselves.

hi Frank,

no offence meant, ;-)

sure you can redo it and post a new version.

Well I like your mastering work, as I heard it on some tracks, (I remember espacially Michaels tracks, superb work there)
but I really dont know why I dont like it on my tracks???
Maybe just because I have my own ideas how they should sound.
I dont think it´s got to do with your abilities,
more with my stubborun ideas about my music.

I'm still looking to create the sound your looking for. hmm....do you have any examples of it...like on a commercial album or something? doesn't have to be your work, just a cd you like the production of and i'll look into it.

well there is not really a CD I know that has exactly the sound I like.

Most near is really the song for the Katrina CD, that I uploaded :?

Sorry but thats really the sound I like. It should be sparkling/crispy a bit brilliant and at the same time very warm and "analog" sounding.
And I know it is sometimes hard to get, because I use often sounds that have not much high frequencies. ;-)
So it is really a task.

But I can upload some other songs from my soon to be realesed CD, that are fine for me.

Just let me know if you want it then I can point you there.

Thanks a lot for your patience with me bolckheaded hun ;-)

No problem Rsmus7...i'll tell you what i did during the mastering...I used the Nuendo multiband compressor ( I LOVE That THING  ) to glue it together a bit...then I used cryonic's Sectralive on litely to bring some shimmer to the whole mix...from there, i used magneto to add some "Tape" style warmth to it. Now, the reason for the lack of "Brilliance" could be the tape emu plug...it purposely flattens the frequencies a bit, which is why i used spectralive to enhance them as much as possible first. I'll try changing the signal routing...see how that turns out. if all else fails...i can always just use a more tranparent compressor to tie the whole mix together and otherwise leave it untouched from the original. i'll keep you posted.

peace!

Are you guys still taking songs? Or are the CD's pretty much filled to the brim? I wrote a piano piece called "From These Waters" inspired by this tragedy that would fit nicely I believe.

[heavy sarcasm]Yeah, I suppose it would be better that we all just donate $25 to our charity of choice and avoid using our art to raise more funds than we can afford to give ourselves 'cause we're unknown independent artists and we shouldn't debase our art by using it to help others. I mean someone might take it the wrong way and think that we're exploiting a tragedy to raise, um, let's see, NO money for ourselves.[/heavy sarcasm]

Sure! The ftp information is back on page 50 I believe. Upload a link to an mp3 version here so we can have a listen.

So has anyone stepped up to take xander's roll yet? I thought he was doing a fine job keeping things rolling, keeping us up to date on the progress so far (song lists and all that), plus general cheerleading.

P.S. Looks like my radio contact for the DC area is going to need the CD in order to help. The station he works at is non-profit and doesn't run any promos. But he says, "I will promote & play the CD & plug the website I know i will do as much as I can . . . I will put something up in the studio & put the "promo" material out for other DJ's."

Post

Nah I'm sure Xander will reconsider after a good night's sleep, and it's a whole new week, after all!
