I have Music Studio 2005 Deluxe and am trying to lay down some tracks.

I've got two wave files imported, only about 4 minutes each on seperate tracks, and when I play back the recording, it's skippy.

If I try to record, it's lagged and pops a lot...

I have an Athlon XP 1.8 (oc'ed to 1.9) 512 megs of ram, 120 gig hd (7200rpm 8 meg cache), win xp sp2, onboard sound AC97, etc.

I also have the lag problem sometimes in ACID and Traktion (I record a track and when I play it back, it's not synced to the other tracks properly). Anyone have any idea what the prob is? Thanks

sounds like you have a sample rate problem.

Maybe trying to change sample rates in Audio Studio will fix it.

and also, change the sample buffer as well. It may be that none of this works, then try the Magix Forums, cause the phone support sucks.

Sounds more like a latency issue. What soundcard are you using, and do you have the latest driver?? If you're using ASIO, you should be able to change the input output buffer somewhere. I'll have to go look on my other PC to be sure.

Well, I'm using my motherboard's onboard AC97 codec sound card. I have asio4all... it's got some settings, but changing has produced any results yet.

Hello dczx, here's your Magix support and FORUM clicker-thingy. You'll have to register with a valid email address, but they can probably help you. (but I cannot.

) I used an older version of the Magix audio midi stuff at one time until I discovered the free Computer Muzys midi host. There is nothing really junky about Magix, don't sweat that. But they do not have the bustling community support that KVR offers here.

If Magix is your chosen tool, then be sure to download the pdf format manual from the website, print it and sit down and study it well. It will pay off. You'll have to spend a lot of time in study with any host, if this is your first go at computer music. I promise that you'll be pleased with your result.

You will find that the Magix forums are not that well supported, (especially the British one!) so try and register for the American forum as this is better supported!
And as has been said, there is no substitute for reading the Manual.

Does your motherboard also have onboard video? You might be experiencing some resource juggling as your PC is trying to draw a picture and output the audio as well; both are tying up system RAM with cruddy results. A dedicated AGP videocard with its own onboard memory may help the situation.

what programme? Music Studio consists of two very different programmes:

- Midi Studio = Emagic Logic

- Audio Studio = Samplitude

which of the two are you referring to?

Invest in a cheap audio card - like the M-Audio Audiophile (PCI version is very cheap these days) and your issues will be solved. Go for a USB version if you want some external ports.

Iv got magix, and I hardly use it, it has some nice features, but its difficult to get a handle on it. I think magix needs a lot more developement to be realy useful.

Have you tried some freeware, such as psycle to test your machine. Your machine seems to be powerful enough, though 1.8 maybe a bit slow. Though Iv seen Fruity Loops work o/k on a low budget machine.You might need a new audio card(audio drivers) and break-out box- try audigy?. Audio drivers- asio for all???

On Traction, did you look at the CPU bar(bottom right), to see if it overloads when playing back tracks?

Maybe you need to spend a lot of time studying the Magix or Traction preference settings. Maybe increase the Latency setting????

you do know you have to close your audio app before you make changes in Asio4all right??

I'm using the Audiostudio app. I'm using the onboard sound but not video, I have a Radeon 9600. Traktion tends to work great with little to no CPU use on normal playback. I'll look into that Audiophile.
