MXR Dynacomp broken?

Hi,
I just received an mxr dynacomp effects pedal, but it could be broken. I have inserted the battery, 9v adapter, output to guitar amp and input to guitar. All I can hear is stuttering noise which is louder when output and sensitivity are turned way up. I know how a compressor sounds, so the only possibility is for it to be broken? Any quick fixes?
edit: The sound is passed through when the switch is off (bypass).

Check for bad soldering joints, dodgy jack connections & loose wires inside.
Or is the stuttering in a steady tempo? Then there may be something oscillating, maybe a condensor has given up. But which one of the 3 zillion components inside...
Does it have a power led indicator, and if yes: does that burn constantly or flickers also? Just checking weather you have a power problem...

Thanks for replying. It's not stuttering in a steady tempo, but it is stuttering more or less. It has a led indicator, but it's not flickering. The led shows red all the time when the unit is switchen ON.C00kie wrote:Check for bad soldering joints, dodgy jack connections & loose wires inside.

You have both the battery and the adapter in?Skaven83 wrote:Hi,

That could be the problem right there.
If I understand you rightly.

I have tried both with battery and adapter, and each one individually.
