Oh, one more thing, has anyone put up a MySpace account for the relief effort CD? I can't do it here at work as MySpace is blocked by our firewall. MySpace.com is a pretty huge community that could provide a large springboard for exposure.

I can't imagine this would be a problem. We're using Chrysalis as a CD title, not a company name. Book titles, CD titles and song titles are, AFAIK not copyrightable or trademarked. As long as the imagery of the CD doesn't bear any resemblance to the record company's trademark--so as to falsely imply we're related to the record company--then we should be fine.rockstar_not wrote:Has anyone addressed the Chrysalis issue yet, from a legal standpoint?

How quickly does that counter thing refresh? I just ordered a second copy and I didn't go up one. Same thing happened on my first order.

Okay . . . MARKETING BRAIN STORMING SESSION.
Was chatting with a friend trying to come up with marketing ideas. Here are a couple things to think about/discuss/do (in no particular order):
1) Solicit local and regional newspapers in your area to do a story on the Chrysalis project. Possible angles of interest: a) [entertainment or community interest story] local composer/musician involved with international coalition of artists to aid Katrina victims; b) [technology story] musicians using the internet to bring independent artists together from around the world to help Katrina victims.
2) The Resonance project sent a lot of their manufactured CDs to radio stations as freebies. Instead of doing that, couldn't we each individually burn CDR copies to send to local/regional radio stations? I'd think we'd appeal more to college and alternative stations rather than the big corporate dominated ones. If so, we might put together a standard press package to go along with the CDR.
3) Fliers . . . someone posted a flier link earlier. Could we have that link repeated fairly often here? Anyone living in a metropolitan area, or near a college might consider distributing fliers on their own.
4) Internet magazines . . . if you know of online magazines in the music and/or technology arenas, see if you can find some contacts there and email them. Music magazines would probably be best approached from the "international coalition of artists organize to help Katrina victims" angle. Technology magazines would probably best be approached from the "internet being used to unite world-wide independent artists" angle (i.e., technology being used as a unifying tool, rather than it being the root of modern isolationism).
5) Radio & TV programs . . . if you can think of any specific radio programs that might be interested in the Chrysalis project as a story, try to find their producer's email addy and send them a note. For example, I've sent notes to the music producer of National Public Radio's program All Things Considered, who is also the host of their online webcast All Songs Considered. (He's a composer and musician in his own right, see http://bobboilen.info.) I've also emailed the producer of that latter show.

I was out of town all weekend and will be working on the final version on Wednesday the 14th, into the wee hours of the morning on Thursday the 15th, at which time I will be uploading the final version in hopefully 24 bit .wav for mr.
