Ok...so what's the problem though..having trouble understanding exactly what you're pinpointing. Just the percieved volume or what?Sascha Franck wrote:Hm, I just listened to the mastered version of herodotus' song (trying to catch up with this thread).
No offense meant, ToTc, but the perceived level isn't even half as high as on herodotus' own mix (btw, I think both guitars are pretty much too loud as well, but that's an entirely different story and probably a matter of taste).
I don't know what you're using to master, but to my ears with this one something went the wrong way.
Sorry, but I allways prefer being honest.
peace!

Yeah well, it simply sounds a bit weak.TotcProductions wrote: Ok...so what's the problem though..having trouble understanding exactly what you're pinpointing. Just the percieved volume or what?

I'm comparing the two. The preview MP3 sounds clean (though its FAR too loud IMO!) but the mastered version is clipping in the bass. It sounds to me a little like the low band of a multi-band comp has much too fast a release time, but I don't suppose that's it really..

I really don't want to play devils advocate here or sound like an asshole. I also know that ToTc is a top guy, so I really don't want to offend him either. But you (or we, whatever...) want the best sonic results possible, no?
I'm not in a situation to define what went wrong, let alone being able to do it any better (I completely suck at mixing and mastering), but I am able to tell that this specific master isn't sounding all that shiny, compared to herodotus' preview.
No idea as to what to do about, but I thought I should mention it anyways.

hello totc,
some general instructions for mastering my track:
i usually do not want my tracks altered in big ways during the mastering process.
i only would prefer to even the track volume level with the other cd tracks and probably remove some distortion, if you hear any.
i would prefer if you could leave the basic track's atmosphere as unchanged as possible. ok?
for example: do not add too much, or any at all, reverb in the track. if you do, please add it in a very subtle way.
and i state again that i do not want to critisize your work Totc in any way really, i just want to give you some general guidelines to help you. ok?
many thanks for your great help and,
best regards,
bakis.

Hey no man -- totally cool! If you think there's a problem then we need to see what's up -- no worries.Sascha Franck wrote:I really don't want to play devils advocate here or sound like an asshole. We absolutely want the best sound possible, so if ANYONE has a question or comment about their track master, we definitely want to hear about it.
Let's see what TOTC comes up with ...

I think it might be helpful to take the mastering feedback to PM, we have 40ish tracks, and every artist has a wish or two regarding their track, might crowd this thread really quick.
Just an idea!

Hey no worries! This is a TEAM effort, so giving input to the mastering process is part of your song creation. Don't panicParallel Worlds wrote:hello totc,

As said, anyone needs to comment on their master, please PM TOTC -- He's certainly open to working with people on their tracks.

"Mastering instructions" for my track: I suspect it needs a lot of equalization, etc, but you can do whatever you feel like with it (when it comes to mastering, of course)
. I'm still working with multimedia speakers so get ready for some real bad surprise...

One other 'right in front of our noses' marketing question:
Will KVR-Ben allow us a spot in the rotating ads at the top of the KVR page? That's how I found out about Resonance.
