Thought i'd share with you the progress on my strat-style denim guitar. I have called it 'Denim Boy' and so far it's going quite well! I was dubious as to how the denim would turn out but for a first attempt I am rather pleased with the results.

There are more (and bigger) pics to be found at: http://patronangels.com/gallery/Denim-Boy

I have some schaller locking tuners and the pick-ups are Fender Lace Sensors. The Red one in the bridge (black cover) has some insane output, very hot and edgy sounding.

There is a pocket at the front for storing plectrums and capos etc.
I will convert an old leather belt for a strap, not sure what to do with the headstock though, any suggestions people?

I have enjoyed doing this and have learnt a lot about the mechanics and technology that go into a guitar, I think the guitar also sounds as good as it looks!

If people are interested, i'll try and do some (decent) audio and maybe video samples soon as well.

Looks Like it needs to be washed.

Thats just awesome. The pocket on the front is ingenius.

Thanks!

I hope it will be feasible to dry clean it! I'll worry about that later I guess ;)

AWESOME BRO...You should have made a step by step tutorial for crafts illeterate like myself :)

headstock? FLANNEL!!!!

please?

question: how did you get the denim so tight to the guitar? did you stretch it toward under thepickguard or glue or what?

Hehe, what kind of flannel do you have in mind?

As for the process, it was pretty much trial and error. I got a suitable bit of denim and cut it into two using a template in the shape of the guitar but a bit larger. Then I stuck the denim on where there was the most surface area and then with a bit of help from my Mother (thanks mum!), Sewed the two denim pieces together around the edge whilst tucking it in neatly. It's very fiddly but can be done.

If I did it again I suspect I could do an even neater job. Won't be doing it for a while though, had pin pricks all over my fingers haha!

The headstock should be a shoe (with the sole where the tuning pegs are). Then the guitar body would look like Daisy Duke (from the TV show, not the recent movie) and the neck would be the leg.

This is a great idea - you should go into business! I can imagine lederhosen-clad guitars for the Austro-German market, pinstripes for the UK and leather for ... well all of us actually!

Derek.

God that's ugly as hell. But you certainly did an awesome job with it.

I like Derek's idea for the Daisy Duke guitar. You should cut the two bottom corners of the denim off and paint the exposed areas in flesh color to mimic ass cheeks.

Post

Haha, no offence but that idea is cheesy.

I must say that in a way Denim is the ultimate reprentation of the whole rock music genre and thus very fitting for a guitar, I wouldn't call it ugly at all, i'm quite proud of how it's turned out.

Wow! I'm surprised how much I like this: if I was just told about it, sight unseen, I'd say it would be a horrible idea.

Well of course it is! :D

I almost bought an Epiphone acoustic guitar once because it had a HUGE picture of elvis on it and I thought it was awesomely cheesy.

Very cool. Ugly, but cool. :-) I second ross g's suggestion of flannel. Red plaid might be a good choice. o/~ Oh, I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay... o/~
