What a small world.. man, I gotta go dig out those old floppies, they've gotta have some antique value by now! Oh, and I have an original 'pong' tv game as well! :hihi:

Yep...especially if it leads to everyone being able to take advantage of any special offers Cakewalk might do in future.
Yes! Nearly slipped my mind that. I remember being really frustrated at missing out on the deals only available to US Cakewalk customers, from discounts on Cakewalk packages to even discounts and specials on 3rd party packages as well. Hopefully as you said it will indeed extend to any special offers as well.

Maybe thier recent customer survey will change alot of things over there, Yamaha may be making some changes. It appears SX4 may now be on an 18 month development cycle (just guessing of course) I wonder if Steinberg will release a demo version of their software after 2 versions without a demo. This always gave me the impression that they had something to hide, bugs? All hosts have bugs of some sort, that are patched at some stage anyway. All very strange. At £570 I would have thought a demo would be available.Prices can differ of course, but IMO it's a lot of money to ask for without any chance to download a demo. I suppose you could walk into a shop and demo it there, (if that facility is available), but it seems a strange policy to me in a highly competitive market. Hopefully Cakewalk will avoid ever adopting such a policy with Sonar.

I can only imagine the look on my son's face if I showed him the games pack my Dad bought me way back. I think it was Tennis as well, all lines, bleeps and blobs! :hihi:

My son has a PS2 as well. I bought it for him a couple of months ago. I think the difference in graphics for him would be,...er... a bit of a shock shall we say. 8)

V-Vocal looks nice. Maybe I can sing now. :)

Well, probably not.

I do like the fact that it is non-destructive.

All I need to be happy is one more VSTi.

Phil Rees...I may have to go the Dell route instead. You said Phil Rees has a poor reputation, do your mean on the SOS forums or in the SOS magazine reviews? I thought Phil Rees SOS review was quite favourable
On the forum, there have been a number of nightmare stories. As to the review being favourable, well, I'm sure there are plenty of reasons why that might be the case (apart from the obvious cynical answer, like I said, I've been pretty impressed when dealing with them).

I was pretty impressed with the video. Very good results were obtained with little fuss or tweaking. I definitely did not want it to be powerful but complicated to use. The video shows just how easy it is to get a simple job done using V-Vocal.

I have heard alot about Autotune but found the interface a bit complicated. I am sure many others of course find it simple to use but am glad I decided to wait a bit before buying Autotune or any of the Melodyne plugs.

I think very few Sonar users were even expecting a plug in like this. Some new synths yes, but not this. I really like the way V Vocal appears to be tightly integrated into Sonar 5 after seeing that video. It clearly has not just been bundled into Sonar5.

A very nice surprise.

I think I will give Phill Rees another look at least then. Carrilon are also another option.

Thanks.

Hi moonlite,

The demo version should be out quite soon, usually a month or so after the initial announcement so early october or at least by early November. I would think by late October at least.

As for how soon you get it once you have bought it...that depends on a variety of things. As Sonar 5 is shipping already I think you would be looking at 3 - 5 days business days as a rough guide.

Not sure if you are upgrading or not but this may interest you...from the Cakewalk forum....

"...the special SONAR 5 upgrade offers end Thursday, September 29th. Customers who have purchased SONAR 5 are eligible to receive 50% off Project5 Version 2. Regularly $299, SONAR 5 customers can purchase it for only $149. Please have your SONAR 5 serial number on hand when you place the order, and use the "Project5 for SONAR 5 customers" option from the Project5 page. If you are upgrading on or before September 29th, you can add Project5 to your cart for $149 as well. You will also need the product serial number you are upgrading from in order to qualify for the Project5 special".

If you have not already seen it check out the V - Vocal video...

Saturdaysaint on the Cakewalk forum found this very interesting Sonar 5 review that Craig Anderton is writing. The best way I can describe the review is interactive and very detailed! There is plenty to read already...

You can even discuss the review with Craig as he writes it! He encourages questions so he may even write about a feature you really want to know more about...just ask :)

Here is a snippet....

"Cakewalk Sonar 5 – RXP File Player
Although there isn’t “drag and drop into the track”-type REX file support, Sonar 5 actually goes one better with the RXP File Player as it allows for a reasonable degree of REX file editing. In addition to loading all ReCycle formats (RX2, REX, RCY), RXP can also load WAV, AIF, and OGG files. However, this is of limited use, as you can’t add or edit slices – basically, with these types of files RXP is a one-shot player (although you can process the file in various ways, as we’ll cover later). Click on the attachment to see the RXP player screen.

Getting back to REX files, you can load a file by navigating to it, or use the built-in Groove Browser if you want to choose among a roster of favorites. The file appears in the main graphical window, along with slice markers.

There are 24 pads across the bottom, whose function depends on whether you’ve selected the Slice or Loop mode. In Slice mode, each pad plays a slice (you can also trigger these via MIDI keyboard – cool). If there are more than 24 slices in the file, you can’t trigger slice 25 on up from the pads, although you can from MIDI.

In Loop mode, clicking on a pad plays the loop for as long as you hold the mouse button down; different pads transpose the file by the amount shown on the pad, from -12 to +11 semitones (right-clicking on a pad plays the loop all the way through).

So far so good, but here’s where it gets interesting:..."
:D

The entire review is way too long for me to even attempt to post here but click on the link http://acapella.harmony-central.com/for ... id=1044512 to read the review ...(so far) as there is more to come. Craig is about to look at the new midi aspects which most people really want to read! :o
